Belley
Belley () is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. History Belley is of Roman origin, and in the 5th century became an episcopal see. It was the capital of the province of Bugey, which was a dependency of Savoy till 1601, when it was ceded to France. In 1385 the town was almost entirely destroyed by an act of incendiarism, but was municipalitysequently rebuilt by the dukes of Savoy, who surrounded it with ramparts of which little is left. Belley was the birthplace of the epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin. Ecclesiastical history Belley was the seat of the Bishop of Belley and the location of Belley Cathedral. Belley is the home region of St. Peter Chanel, the famous 19th-century Marist missionary martyr and proto-martyr of Oceania. Arandas, Ain
Arandas is a commune in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. Geography Arandas is some 50 km north-west of Aix-les-Bains and 10 km south-west of Hauteville-Lompnes. It can be accessed by the D104 from Argis in the north running south to the village then continuing south as the D104A through the heart of the commune to join the D32 south of the commune. The D104 itself reverses direction in the village and heads north-west to join the D73. The commune has some farmland but is heavily forested and mountainous. There are no villages or hamlets in the commune other than Arandas. The ''Bossiere'' stream rises near the village and flows west to join the ''Galine'' river. The ''Ruisseau de Grinand'' also rises in the north of the commune, forming part of the northern boundary before flowing into the Galine. Brégnier-Cordon () is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. Geography Brégnier-Cordon lies 20 km south of Belley. It is located in a bend of the Rhône on the edge of Savoie (on the southeast) and Isère (on the west). The bridge at Cordon joins the commune to Aoste, in the Isère department. Artemare () is a commune in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. Geography Artemare is a commune in Valromey 16 km north of Belley and 8 km north-west of Culoz and the Rhône. Artemare is exposed to the south between two chains of the Jura Mountains: the Planachat in the west and the Colombier culminating in Grand-Colombier (1538 m) to the east. This village is between Lower-Bugey and Upper-Bugey not far from Savoie and Isère. The commune can be accessed from several roads: the D69D from Champdossin-Massignieu in the west, the D31L from Pont in the north, and the D904 from Ameyzieu in the east which continues south from the village to Virieu-le-Grand. The main railway line from Modane to Lyon passes through the south of the commune from west to east.
