An aromatic amino acid is an amino acid that includes an aromaticity, aromatic ring. Among the 20 standard amino acids, histidine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, tyrosine, are classified as aromatic. Properties and function Optical properties Aromatic amino acids, excepting histidine, absorb Ultraviolet, ultraviolet light above and beyond 250 nm and will fluorescence, fluoresce under these conditions. This characteristic is used in quantitative analysis, notably in determining the concentrations of these amino acids in solution.
