Sally Arnup
Sally Arnup (15 July 1930 – 22 December 2015) was an English sculptor known for her depictions of animals. Her studios were located at Holtby, a village near York. Biography Arnup was born in London and began studying at the Kingston School of Art at the age of thirteen. She later studied at Camberwell College of Arts and the Royal College of Art where she was taught by both Frank Dobson and John Skeaping. In 1955 she won the Royal Society of British Sculptors' Feodora Gleichen Award for women artists. From 1958 to 1972 Arnup was the Head of Sculpture at York College of Art. Her husband Mick Arnup also taught art at the college. Both Sally Arnup and her husband retired from teaching in 1974 to focus on their artistic careers. Artworks Arnup's speciality as an artist was for bronze animal sculptures, often created with the live animal present. John Arnup
John Douglas Arnup, (May 24, 1911 – October 5, 2005) was a Canadian judge on the Court of Appeal for Ontario, who is best known for having pioneered universal legal aid in Ontario. Early life and education Born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Jesse H. Arnup (1881–1965), a Methodist minister who was Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 1945 to 1946, and Ella Maud Leeson (1883–1966). He attended Oakwood Collegiate Institute in Toronto, and then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Victoria College in the University of Toronto in 1932. He received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1935. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1935. Career Arnup was named a King's Counsel in 1950 and practiced law with Mason, Foulds, Davidson, Carter & Kellock (now WeirFoulds LLP). Arnup Cup
The Sopinka Cup is an annual trial advocacy competition in Canada organized by The Advocates' Society and sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers. This two-day event is aimed to encourage law schools to train students in the art of oral advocacy. Elimination occurs in four regional competitions across Canada, leaving eight law schools to represent various geographical areas of Canada and compete in the bilingual National Finals hosted in Ottawa. Universities in the western provinces ( British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) compete in the MacIntyre Cup. Universities in Ontario compete in the Arnup Cup. Both are mock trial advocacy competitions. Universities in Quebec compete in the Guy Guérin Cup. Universities in the eastern provinces ( New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) compete in the McKelvey Cup.
