Arnt Eliassen
Arnt Eliassen (9 September 1915 – 22 April 2000) was a Norwegian meteorologist who was a pioneer in the use of numerical analysis and computers for weather forecasting. Career The early pioneer work was done at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, together with John von Neumann. His areas of research included free and thermally driven circulations, frontogenesis, and shear and gravitational–acoustic wave propagation in stratified media. Eliassen received the Carl-Gustaf Rossby Research Medal in 1964 for his many important contributions to dynamical meteorology. He received the Balzan Prize in 1996 "For his fundamental contributions to dynamic meteorology that have influenced and stimulated progress in this science during the past fifty years". Trond Eliassen
Trond Eliassen (born 10 October 1922) is a Norwegian architect. He was born in Kristiania to architect Georg Eliassen and artist Helfrid Beda Andrea Strömberg, and is a brother of metrologist Arnt Eliassen. In 1947 he started an architectural company jointly with Birger Lambertz-Nilssen. Bekkestua is a town in the municipality of Bærum, Norway, with a busy bus terminal and a station on one of Oslo's westbound T-bane lines, Kolsåsbanen. It also has its own library, police station and fire station. It has grown to be the second largest centre of the municipality after Sandvika, with small restaurants and shopping centres. Nadderud stadion (stadium), the home ground of the Stabæk Fotball association football club is at walking distance from Bekkestua. Vilhelm Bjerknes Medal
The Vilhelm Bjerknes Medal is an award presented by the European Geosciences Union (and its predecessor, the European Geophysical Society) that recognizes "distinguished research in atmospheric sciences". It was first awarded in 1997, to Brian Hoskins, and later recipients include the Nobel-Prize-winning oceanographer and climate scientist Klaus Hasselmann.
