Arnstein Johansen
Arnstein Johansen (June 19, 1925 – September 26, 2013) was a Norwegian accordionist that played jazz and old-fashioned dances. He became well-known through his recordings and his international collaboration. Life Johansen was born in Fredrikstad. He studied under Ottar E. Akre, Thorleif Ekren, and Gunnar Sønstevold, and also at the Norwegian Academy of Music. After the Second World War, he played in a duet with Rolf Andersen, and then spent time in the United States, playing with Pietro Frosini, Guido Deiro, and Anthony Galla-Rini. He released a number of albums as a solo artist and with the Arnstein Johansen Quartet (''Arnstein Johansen kvartett''), later quintet: ''Gammeldans'' (Old-Fashioned Dances), ''Hæla i taket'' (Party Hardy), ''A.J.'s freskeste'' (A. Gammaldans
Gammaldans (Swedish) or Gammeldans (Danish and Norwegian) (literally "old dance") is a small set of Nordic dances that became broadly popular in the late 19th century. These were also the dances of the Nordic immigrant communities in the United States. These are still danced socially and in dance groups and clubs and are often taught at some point during a child’s public school years. Most of these dances arose and became widely disseminated first at the beginning of the region's industrialization when communication between cities and smaller communities increased. Despite the name (which translates to "old dance"), gammaldans is a comparatively recent addition to the Nordic folk dance tradition. Norwegian Accordionists' Association
The Norwegian Accordionists' Association ( no, Norske Trekkspilleres Landsforbund, NTL) is a Norwegian musical organization for accordionists that was established on October 17, 1971. The association's founders included Aage Grundstad. It has just over 3,000 members (grouped by counties), of which 200 are accordion orchestras. The association is headed by Trond Smalås, and it is headquartered in Oslo. It holds annual district championships in February leading up to the annual Norwegian Accordion Championship (''NM på trekkspill''), which in recent years has been held in Bergen (2000), Seljord (2001), Hønefoss (2002), Tromsø (2003), Malm (2004), Lillehammer (2005), Bodø (2006), Bø (2007), and Sandnes (2008). Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. Albin Hagström Memorial Award
The Albin Hagström Memorial Award ( sv, Albin Hagströms Minnespris) was a prize that was awarded between 1997 and 2006 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in memory of Albin Hagström, a well-known accordionist and accordion maker from Älvdalen and the founder of the Hagström company. The award was given to an accordionist or guitarist, and the prizewinner was selected by the Kärstin Hagström-Heikkinen Music Award Fund. Since 2007, several scholarships have been awarded to accordionists and guitarists in popular music. The applicant cannot be older than 35 and must be a Swedish citizen. Bærum () is a municipality in the Greater Oslo Region in Norway that forms an affluent suburb of Oslo on the west coast of the city. Førde
Førde is a former municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. It was located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative center was the town of Førde which in 2016 had 10,255 inhabitants. Other villages in Førde municipality included Bruland, Holsen, Moskog, and Haukedalen. The Øyrane area in the town of Førde was a large industrial/commercial area for the region. The European Route E39 highway passed through the municipality, and it passed by the lake Holsavatnet. Fredrikstad (; previously ''Frederiksstad''; literally "Fredrik's Town") is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Fredrikstad.
