Arnljot Strømme Svendsen
Arnljot Ole Strømme-Svendsen (5 December 1921 – 5 January 2022) was a Norwegian economist and Conservative politician. Biography Born in Kristiania, he was the son of Ole A. Strømm-Svendsen (Sweden and Norway, 1883–1975) and wife Dagmar Bærem (Sweden and Norway, 1886–1976). He graduated with the cand.oecon. degree in 1946, having finished his secondary education five years previously. In 1948 he was hired as a research fellow at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration. He was promoted to docent in 1956, and to professor ten years later. He managed the Institute of Economics from 1957 to 1967 and the Institute of Shipping Economics from 1958 to his retirement in 1991. In 1953 he married Bertha I. Nygaard. Vebjørn Tandberg
Vebjørn Tandberg (16 September 1904 – 30 August 1978) was a Norwegian electronics engineer. Tandberg was born at Bodø in Nordland, Norway. He attended the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim (1930). He founded '' Tandbergs Radiofabrikk'' of Oslo in 1933 and made it a great success. In addition to his technical and commercial achievements, Tandberg was a pioneer in providing good conditions for his workforce. He instituted a 42-hour week and three weeks' annual vacation for all in 1937, and a free pension and health insurance scheme for all from 1938. A four-week vacation for all employees over 40 years of age was introduced in 1947, while the working week was reduced to 39 hours in 1948. Centenarian
A centenarian is a person who has reached the age of 100 years. Because life expectancies worldwide are below 100 years, the term is invariably associated with longevity. In 2012, the United Nations estimated that there were 316,600 living centenarians worldwide. As world population and life expectancy continue to increase, the number of centenarians is expected to increase substantially in the 21st century. According to the UK ONS, one-third of babies born in 2013 in the UK are expected to live to 100. Gunnar Christie Wasberg (21 February 1923 – 27 January 2015) was a Norwegian historian, philosopher and first librarian at the University of Oslo Library. Biography Wasberg was born in the parish of Brunlanes at Larvik in Vestfold, Norway. He took the doctorate (fil.dr.) at Uppsala University in 1963 with the thesis ''Forsvarstanke og suverenitetsprinsipp''. From 1967 to 1989 he was the prime librarian at the University Library of Oslo. Wasberg held a guest professorship at University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also had other research engagement, and he was a guest lecturer, at a number of universities in Europe and in the United States. Hilmar August Reksten (29 October 1897 – 1 July 1980) was a Norwegian shipping magnate. In the autumn of 1973 he was counted among the world's richest men, possessing a fleet worth about £300,000,000. At his death in 1980, all was lost; he left behind a debt of about £100,000,000. Background Hilmar Reksten grew up in a small flat at Nordnes, a central quarter of Bergen. He was the eldest of three siblings; there was a younger brother called Hjalmar (1900–1961), and a sister, Sofie. Their mother, Helene Monsen Søndervåg (1869–1902), died when Reksten was only four years old.
