Arne Tovik
Arne Olsen Tovik (1956 – 9 June 2009) was a Norwegian journalist. He was active in the Workers' Youth League (Norway), Workers' Youth League in his younger days. He worked for the Norwegian Labour Party, Labour Party from 1984, and was a campaign secretary for the 1987 Norwegian local elections, Norwegian elections of 1987. In 1987 he was hired as a journalist in ''Telemarksavisa, Telemark Arbeiderblad'' (from 1994 ''Telemarksavisa''). He was promoted to editor-in-chief in 1990. Among others, he oversaw its transition to the Tabloid (newspaper format), tabloid format. From 1993 he worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, and in 2004 he was hired as political editor for the ''Telemarksavisa'' competitor ''Varden (newspaper), Varden''. He has also worked in ''Porsgrunns Dagblad''. He died in June 2009. The editors-in-chief of both ''Telemarksavisa'' and ''Varden'' described Tovik as one of the most prominent press people in Telemark. References 1956 births 2009 ... Workers' Youth League (Norway)
The Workers' Youth League ( nb, Arbeidernes ungdomsfylking, nn, Arbeidarane si ungdomsfylking, or AUF) is Norway's largest political youth organization and is affiliated with the Norwegian Labour Party. History In 1903, the ''Norwegian Social-Democratic Youth League'' was formed, which the organization and historians consider to be the foundation of the organization. As an organizational entity, ''AUF'' took its current form in April 1927 following the merger of Left Communist Youth League and Socialist Youth League of Norway corresponding with the merger of its parent parties after the conclusion of disputes over the "Twenty-one Conditions". Norwegian Labour Party
The Labour Party ( nb, Arbeiderpartiet; nn, Arbeidarpartiet; A/Ap; se, Bargiidbellodat), formerly The Norwegian Labour Party ( no, Det norske Arbeiderparti, DNA), is a social-democratic political party in Norway. Telemarksavisa
''Telemarksavisa'' is a Norwegian newspaper, published in Skien in Telemark county. ''Telemark Arbeiderblad'' was started on 1 October 1921 as a reaction to the perceived moderate stance of Skien's labour newspaper ''Bratsberg Demokraten''. However, ''Telemark Arbeiderblad'' was not published out of Telemark, but out of Larvik, Vestfold. From 1 January 1922 it was published out of Drammen, Buskerud under the auspices of ''Fremtiden''. It changed its name to ''Telemark Social-Demokrat'' in August 1922, went defunct in March 1923 but was revived in November 1923—this time in Notodden in Telemark. For a short time the Norwegian Labour Party, Labour Party had no newspaper in Telemark, as ''Bratsberg Demokraten'' had been taken over by Communist Party of Norway, Communists in 1923. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. The term preceded the 1918 reference to smaller sheet newspapers that contained the condensed stories. NRK, an abbreviation of the Norwegian ''Norsk Rikskringkasting AS'', generally expressed in English as the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, is the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company, and the largest media organisation in Norway. ''Varden'' is a local newspaper published in Skien, Norway. History and profile The newspaper was first established with a test issue on 17 December 1874, with Johan Christian Tandberg Castberg as its first editor-in-chief. It has been published daily since 1895, and in the tabloid format since 2001 Its current editor-in-chief is Lars Kise, who took over from Per Valebrokk in 2008. Originally, ''Varden'' was owned by individual persons. Harald Kristoffersen, its editor-in-chief and owner from 1901, created the limited company AS Varden in 1918. ''Porsgrunns Dagblad'' is a Norwegian newspaper, published in Porsgrunn in Telemark county, Norway. History and profile ''Porsgrunds Dagblad'' was started on 1 December 1914, and later modernized its name. The first editor Daniel H. Grini was an experienced press worker, and came from ''Varden'' in the neighboring city. He made ''Porsgrunds Dagblad'' into a local newspaper. In a city where the liberal newspapers '' Porsgrunds Blad'' and '' Porsgrunds Tidende'' had struggled, and the conservative newspaper ''Grenmar'' was well established, ''Porsgrunds Dagblad'' became the city's new organ for the Liberal Party. Telemark
Telemark is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Telemark borders the traditional regions and former counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Hordaland, Rogaland and Aust-Agder. The name ''Telemark'' means the "mark of the Thelir", the ancient North Germanic tribe that inhabited what is now known as Upper Telemark in the Migration Period and the Viking Age. In the Middle Ages, the agricultural society of Upper Telemark was considered the most violent region of Norway. Today, half of the buildings from medieval times in Norway are located here.
