Ellis Gibbs Arnall (March 20, 1907December 13, 1992) was an American politician who served as the 69th Governor of Georgia from 1943 to 1947. A liberal Democrat, he helped lead efforts to abolish the poll tax and to reduce Georgia's voting age to 18. Following his departure from office, he became a highly successful attorney and businessman. Education Born in Newnan, Georgia, he attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, then graduated from the University of the South, and then from the University of Georgia School of Law. Julia Arnall (21 November 1928 – 8 November 2018) was a German-born British-based actress. Personal life Born Julia Ilse Hendrike Irmgard von Stein Liebenstein zu Bachfeld in 1928 in Munich, she spent her childhood in Berlin, where her father was an army officer. She attended drama school in Vienna. After the war ended she married Desmond Arnall, a British Army officer who had been posted to Berlin. In 1950, she came to Britain with her husband and her young son. In 1952, her second son was born. She started her life as a model before becoming an actress with the Rank Organisation. She appeared in bit parts in a few films before starring in the 1956 film ''Lost''. After departing Rank, she continued acting, appearing in a few episodes of television shows, including ''The Saint'' and ''Emergency – Ward 10''. In 1956 she and Arnall divorced. William Arnall (died May 1736) was an English political writer. Life He was trained as an attorney, but took to political writing before he was twenty. He was one of the authors in Prime Minister Robert Walpole's pay who replied to the ''Craftsman'' and the various attacks of Bolingbroke and Pulteney. He wrote the ''Free Briton'' under the signature of "Francis Walsingham", and succeeded Matthew Concanen in the '' British Journal''. The report of the committee of inquiry into Walpole's conduct indicates that in the years 1731-41 over £50,000 for his writing circle, with over £10,997 allocated to Arnall for distribution to other journalists or to meet printing costs. Arnall himself received an annual pension of about £400, making him the best paid government journalist in London. Arnall Patz
Arnall Patz (June 14, 1920 – March 11, 2010) was an American medical doctor and research professor at Johns Hopkins University. In the early 1950s, Patz discovered that oxygen therapy was the cause of an epidemic of blindness among some 10,000 premature babies. Following his discovery, there was a sixty percent reduction in childhood blindness in the United States. He also conducted pioneering research in the 1960s into the use of lasers in the treatment of retinal disorders. He received the Lasker Award in 1956 for his research into the causes and prevention of blindness and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004 for his lifetime of work in the field of ophthalmology.
