Arnaldo Conti
Arnaldo Conti (Parma, 22 February 1855 — Milan, 24 March 1919) was an Italian conductor of opera. He spent much of his life on tour in opera houses around the world, directing performances with singers such as Adelina Patti, Luisa Tetrazzini, Marcella Sembrich, Emma Calvé, Fernando de Lucia, Riccardo Stracciari, Antonio Scotti and Jean and Edouard de Reszke. He seems not to have sought publicity; he rarely ventured into concert hall, or the recording studio unlike his younger, fellow Parma-born conductors, Cleofonte Campanini and Arturo Toscanini. He was at various times conductor at the Opéra-Italien (at the Théâtre-Italien), Paris; the Teatro Regio (Parma), Italy; the Teatro Real, Madrid; the Teatro Solis, Montevideo; the touring San Carlo Opera Company (originally from the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples) then in the US. Boston Opera House (1909)
The Boston Opera House was an opera house located on Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts. It opened in as the home of the Boston Opera Company and was demolished in after years of disuse. Speare Hall, a Northeastern University dormitory, now stands on the site at the corner of Opera Place and Huntington Avenue. History Construction Designed by the Boston architects Wheelwright and Haven, construction began on the Boston Opera House in 1901 but due to financial difficulties the completion of the opera house was delayed. Eventually Bostonian millionaire Eben Jordan, Jr. stepped forward in 1908 to provide the funds to finish the building and provide a home for the newly formed Boston Opera Company (BOC) under the leadership of impresario Henry Russell. The Boston Opera Company (BOC) was an American opera company located in Boston, Massachusetts, that was active from 1909 to 1915. History The company was founded in 1908 by Bostonian millionaire Eben Dyer Jordan, Jr. and impresario Henry Russell. Jordan, an opera enthusiast and amateur singer, was the heir to a department store fortune and provided the company's financial backing for its first three seasons. He also provided the funds necessary to complete the Boston Opera House, as the theatre's construction had been halted for some years due to lack of finances. The San Carlo Opera Company was the name of two different opera companies active in the United States during the first half of the twentieth century. Henry Russell's San Carlo Opera The first company was founded by impresario Henry Russell, initially as a touring arm of the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, Italy, in 1904. The company soon became its own institution and toured to The Royal Opera, London, in the Fall of 1905 and Boston in early 1906. The group remained based in Boston and gave tours annually of mostly Italian operas throughout the United States from 1906 to 1909 in addition to giving performances in Boston. The Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) is an opera house in Madrid, Spain.
