Armeesportvereinigung Vorwärts
The Armeesportvereinigung Vorwärts (Army Sports Club Forward), briefly ASV Vorwärts, was the sport organisation of the German Democratic Republic's National People's Army (NVA) and its predecessor, the Barracked People's Police (''Kasernierte Volkspolizei''). Together with the sport clubs and the SV Dynamo, the ASV Vorwärts was one of the most important supports of the East German elite sports system. From their clubs in Potsdam, Frankfurt (Oder), Neubrandenburg, Stralsund or Rostock emerged well-known sportsmen like the boxer Henry Maske or the canoeist Birgit Fischer. In almost every city with barracks or other army installations the ASV kept a training center. ASG Vorwärts Leipzig was an East German sports club from the city of Leipzig, Saxony. The history of the club is marked by several wholesale transfers of the football team to other cities. Grand Challenge Cup
The Grand Challenge Cup is a rowing competition for men's eights. It is the oldest and best-known event at the annual Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames at Henley-on-Thames in England. It is open to male crews from all eligible rowing clubs. Two or more clubs may combine to make an entry. The event dates from 1839 and was originally called the "Henley Grand Challenge Cup". The Stewards resolved that a silver cup, for which they incurred 100 guineas, was to be competed for annually by amateur crews in eight-oared boats. One of the prize medals awarded at the first race was donated to the regatta in 1969 and is on display in the Prize Tent. The cup has since been competed for annually save for the years affected by the two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic. Hanns Leske (born 1950 in Berlin) is a German sports historian, political scientist and former Berlin local politician. Life Hanns Leske served from 1979 to 1999 within the Social Democratic Party of Germany as a member of the district council of Schöneberg and was group managing director and building policy spokesman. After leaving the party in 1999, Leske briefly appeared as Charité press spokesman between 2004 and 2005, but subsequently devoted himself exclusively to various publications on East German football ( de).
