Armanitola Government High School
Armanitola Government High School is a secondary school for boys in Armanitola, in the old part of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It celebrated its centenary in 2004. History This school was established in 1904 by the British government, as an experimental school of the only teacher training college of East Bengal at that time. The school started at a vast campus with red brick buildings constructed in the British style at a location in front of the Tara Masjid ( Star Mosque), a famous monument of Muslim architecture. Within a few years after its establishment, it drew attention of the city dwellers for its performance in education, sports and culture. The school, however, could not sustain its name and fame during later years, particularly during the Pakistan period. Pranab Mukherjee
Dr. Pranab Mukherjee (11 December 193531 August 2020) was an Indian politician and statesman who served as the 13th president of India from 2012 until 2017. In a political career spanning five decades, Mukherjee was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and occupied several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India. Prior to his election as President, Mukherjee was Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012. Nooruddin Ahmed (born 6 January 1941) is a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 8th vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, commonly known by the acronym BUET, is a public technological research university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded in 1876 as the Dacca Survey School, it is the oldest institution for the study of engineering, architecture and urban planning in Bangladesh. A large number of BUET alumni are active in notable engineering and non-engineering roles in Bangladesh and abroad. History Dacca Survey School was established in 1876 at Nalgola, west of the current Sir Salimullah Medical College campus, in Old Dhaka by the Government of Bengal under British Raj. Muhammad Shahjahan (academic)
Muhammad Shahjahan (2 January 1939 – 20 September 2000) was a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 6th vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Education Shahjahan passed matriculation exam from Armanitola Government High School in 1954 and intermediate examination from Dhaka College in 1956. He then earned his bachelor's in civil engineering from Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1960. He obtained his master's from Colorado State University in 1963 and Ph.D. from University of Strathclyde in 1970. Career Shahjahan joined as a lecturer in Ahsanullah Engineering College (later BUET) in October 1960. He served as the vice-chancellor of BUET from April 1991 to November 1996. His second-term reappointment was truncated by a teacher-students-employees agitation. He retired from BUET in January 2000. Bashir Ahmad (Bangladeshi Athlete)
Bashir Ahmed (born 1941) is a retired Bangladeshi international field hockey player. Early life Bashir Ahmed was born in Mahut-tuli area in Dhaka. He studied in Armanitola Government High School. After he enrolled in the University of Dhaka, he took part in field hockey, football, cricket and athletics. He was an active sportsman during the late '50s and '60s. The Dhaka clubs he played for included Mohammedan Sporting, Victoria Sporting, Brothers Union and National Bank of Pakistan (now Sonali Bank). Muhammed Abul Manzur
Muhammed Abul Manzur (24 February 1940 – 1 June 1981) was a Bangladeshi military officer who commanded the Bangladesh Forces operations in Sector 8 during the Bangladesh Liberation War against Pakistan in 1971. He was allegedly involved in the assassination of the then-President of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman. The erstwhile Chief of Army Staff and alleged mastermind of Rahman's assassination, Hussein Muhammad Ershad, had put a standing shoot-to-kill order on Manzur's life—he was killed shortly after being captured at the border.
