Armando Valente (January 12, 1903 – December 7, 1997) was an Italian track and field athlete. Biography Valente was born in Sampierdarena and died in Genoa. The men's 10 kilometres Racewalking, walk event was part of the Athletics at the 1924 Summer Olympics, track and field athletics programme at the 1924 Summer Olympics. It was the only racewalking event at this Games. After 1924, the 10 kilometre walk would not be held again until 1948. The competition was held from Wednesday, July 9, 1924, to Sunday, July 13, 1924. Race Walk
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. The biennial World Athletics Championships also featured these two events, in addition to a 50 km walk for women, until 2019. The Italian Athletics Championships ( it, Campionati italiani assoluti di atletica leggera) are the national championships in athletics, organised every year by the Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera. The first edition, four races only, was held in 1906 at Arena Civica in Milan, just after the foundation of the Federazione Podistica Italiana and with the organization of ''La Gazzetta dello Sport''. Since then, 110 editions were held with the only exceptions of the years 1915-1918 and 1944. During 1945, only athletes of Northern Italy could participate but FIDAL considered this edition as an official one. To the running races, in 1913 the field events were added.
