Armand Vergeaud
Jean Antoine Armand Vergeaud (3 August 1876, Angoulême - 1949, Tunis?) was a French Orientalist painter. Biography He studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, under Gustave Moreau, Fernand Cormon and François Flameng. In 1912, he moved to Tunis. He was named Director of the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Tunis in 1927, a position he held until his death. Among his notable students there, one may mention , Yahia Turki, , Abdelaziz Gorgi and Antonio Corpora. Antonio Corpora
Antonio Corpora (1909–2004) was a Tunisian born Italian painter who followed the Tachisme style of Abstract art. Corpora was born in Tunis, Tunisia on 15 August 1909 to Sicilian parents. He trained at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts under the mentorship of Armand Vergeaud. In 1930, Corpora moved to Paris, eventually settling in Rome in 1939. In Rome, Corpora joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti, a post-cubist Italian art movement. In the 1930s, Corpora's style was abstract and geometric, heavily influenced by Cubism and Fauvism. His work later shifted more towards abstract expressionism and Tachisme. Legion Of Honor
The National Order of the Legion of Honour (french: Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur), formerly the Royal Order of the Legion of Honour ('), is the highest French order of merit, both military and civil. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, it has been retained (with occasional slight alterations) by all later French governments and regimes. Abdelaziz Gorgi
Abdelaziz Gorgi () (born 2 June 1928—died 10 January 2008) was a Tunisian artist. He was one of the founders of the Tunis School of painting and one of the most prominent members of Tunisia's cultural scene. Biography Gorgi was born in the Tunisian medina in 1928 and studied at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts before beginning an artistic career in France. He helped create the Tunis School of painting which he led until 1983. He established his own art gallery, the Gorgi Gallery, in 1973 which mainly shows works of new Tunisian artists. His paintings and tapestries have been featured in exhibitions across the world. Gorgi taught drawing, ceramics and painting at the Institute of Fine Arts from 1959 to 1983. Gorgi was honored by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on several occasions.
