Armaan (1942 Film)
''Armaan '' () also called ''Arman'', is a Bollywood film. It was released in 1942. ''Arman'' was the first film that Kidar Sharma directed for Ranjit Studios and also his first in Bombay since his shift from Calcutta. The story, dialogue and lyrics were also by Sharma. Kidar Sharma
Kidar Nath Sharma, also Kedar Sharma (12 April 1910 – 29 April 1999), was an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, and Lyricist of Hindi films. While he had great success as a director of such movies as '' Neel Kamal'' (1947), ''Bawre Nain'' (1950) and '' Jogan'' (1950). He is most remembered for starting the acting careers of popular Bollywood actors like Madhubala, Geeta Bali, Raj Kapoor, Mala Sinha, Bharat Bhushan and Tanuja. Early life and education Kidar Sharma was born in a Punjabi brahmin family Narowal in what was then the Punjab region of India and grew up in a life of poverty. ''Chitralekha'' is a 1941 Indian Hindi-language film, directed by Kidar Sharma and based on the 1934 Hindi novel of the same name by Bhagwati Charan Verma. Its music is by noted classical musician Ustad Jhande Khan, giving popular songs like "Sun sun Neelkamal Muskaye," "Saiyyan Saware Bhaye Baware," and "Tum Jao Bde Bhagwan Bane, Insaan Bano." It was the second-highest grossing Indian film of 1941. Khan used classical Ragas like Bhairavi and Asavari to the score, making it influential for classical based Hindi film songs. Mehtab (actress)
Mehtab (1913–1997) was an Indian actress of Hindi/Urdu films who worked from 1928 to 1969. She was born in Sachin, Gujarat, to a Muslim family and named Najma. Her father, Nawab Sidi Ibrahim Mohammad Yakut Khan III, was the Nawab of Sachin, near Surat in the state of Gujarat. Starting her career in the late 1920s with small roles in films like ''Second Wife'' (1928), ''Indira B. A.'' (1929) and ''Jayant'' (1929), she went on to do character roles before acting in the lead opposite Ashraf Khan in ''Veer Kunal'' (1932). After almost a decade of doing mainly action-oriented roles, she came into prominence with the Kidar Sharma-directed '' Chitralekha'' (1941). She married her early co-star Ashraf Khan with whom she had a son. They divorced later and she married Sohrab Modi in 1946. ''filmindia'' is an Indian monthly magazine covering Indian cinema and published in English language. Started by Baburao Patel in 1935, ''filmindia'' was the first English film periodical to be published from Bombay. The magazine was reportedly run "single-handedly" by Patel, who wielded power through this medium to "make or destroy a film". Its most popular column was "The Editor's Mail" answered by Patel. The magazine featured film news, editorials, studio round-ups, gossip, and reviews of different language films, mainly from Hindi and regional cinema and affiliated reviews from Hollywood. His articles included siding with the lesser known cinema workers like the technicians, extras and stuntmen. Patel met the painter S. M. Baburao Patel (1904–1982) was an Indian publisher and writer, associated with films and politics. Career He was the editor and publisher of India's first film trade magazine, ''Filmindia'', the first edition of which was published in 1935. Ranjit Studios
Ranjit Studios, also known as Ranjit Movietone, was an Indian film production company with studio facilities located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It produced films between 1929 and mid-1970s. The studio was founded by Chandulal Shah along with Gohar Kayoum Mamajiwala. It was one of the three largest studios in Bollywood of its time, besides Kohinoor Film Company and Imperial Film Company. The company began production of silent films in 1929 under the banner Ranjit Film Company and by 1932 had made 39 pictures, most of them social dramas. The company changed its name to Ranjit Movietone in 1932 and during the 1930s produced numerous successful talkies at the rate of about six a year.
