Arlan Hockey Club ( kk, Арлан хоккей клубы, ''Arlan Kókshetaý hokkeı klýby''), commonly referred as Arlan Kokshetau, is a professional ice hockey team based in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan. Founded in 2009, they play in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship, the top level of ice hockey in Kazakhstan. The team also won the 2018–19 IIHF Continental Cup, becoming the first team from Kazakhstan to do so. Kokshetau (meaning ''Blueish Mountain'' in Kazakh, kz, Көкшетау, Kökşetau; ; rus, Кокшета́у, p=kokʂɛtaʊ) is a city in northern Kazakhstan and the capital of Akmola Region, which stretches along the southern shore of Lake Kopa, lying in the north of Kokshetau Hills, a northern subsystem of the Kokshetau Uplands ( Saryarka) and the southern edge of the Ishim Plain. It is named after the Mount Kokshe. Earlier, it was the administrative center of Kokshetau Region, which was abolished in 1997. It is also situated at the junction of the Trans-Kazakhstan and South Siberian railways. Kokshetau lies at an elevation of approximately above sea level. Leonīds Beresņevs
Leonīds Beresņevs (russian: Леони́д Арка́дьевич Бе́реснев, ''Leonid Arkadyevich Beresnev''; born 6 July 1958) is a Latvian/Soviet Union, Soviet former ice hockey player and coach. Born in Kirov Oblast he is a coach of the Latvian U-20 junior team. His first term of coaching the Latvian national team was from 1996 till 1999. In the 1996 world championships, when Latvia was playing in division B, they won and for the first time were promoted to division A where they finished at 7th place in 1997. From that time they have remained in division A. Beresņevs' second term started in 2004 and ended in 2006. In 2005 Latvia qualified for Torino Olympics where they took the last place. Beresņevs has been a coach for almost all the best Latvian ice hockey clubs since 1995. In 1996/1997 his coached Juniors Riga took gold at EEHL. The Kazakhstan Hockey Cup is the national ice hockey cup in Kazakhstan. It was first played in 2002. Kazzinc-Torpedo has won the most cups, with four, Kazakhmys Satpaev/Karagandy has won three, Saryarka Karaganda, Arlan Kokshetau, Gornyak Rudny and Kulager Petropavl have all won two respectively, Yertis Pavlodar, Arystan Temirtau and Altay Torpedo have both won one apiece. IIHF Continental Cup
The Continental Cup is a second-level ice hockey tournament for European clubs (behind Champions Hockey League), begun in 1997 after the discontinuing of the European Cup. It was intended for teams from countries without representatives in the European Hockey League, with participating teams chosen by the countries' respective ice hockey associations. Hans Dobida served as chairman of the Continental Cup until 2018. Format The competition began in 1997–98 with 42 clubs from 26 countries, which expanded to 48 teams for the next two years. The tournament was played in seeded rounds of qualifying groups. There were three rounds of qualifying groups, with winners of qualifying groups progressing to the next round. The three winners of the third round groups entered the semifinals, along with the host club.
