Arkansas Register of Historic Places (ARHPs) are sites, structures, buildings, landscaped areas and objects in the state of Arkansas that have been determined to have statewide architectural, cultural or historical significance. Administration The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) nominates properties for inclusion in the ARHP; completing a nomination often started by the property owner or a local community and submitting it to an eleven-member selection board who reviews the submittals and makes a recommendation on the property's inclusion. The selection board consists of appointees serving at the pleasure of the Governor of Arkansas. Arkansas
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. It is bordered by Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south, and Texas and Oklahoma to the west. Its name is from the Osage language, a Dhegiha Siouan language, and referred to their relatives, the Quapaw people. The state's diverse geography ranges from the mountainous regions of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains, which make up the U.S. Interior Highlands, to the densely forested land in the south known as the Arkansas Timberlands, to the eastern lowlands along the Mississippi River and the Arkansas Delta. Arkansas is the 29th largest by area and the 34th most populous state, with a population of just over 3 million at the 2020 census.
