Arkansas Highway 303
Highway 303 (AR 303, Ark. 303, and Hwy. 303) is a designation for three north–south state highways in Northwest Arkansas. Each connects sparsely populated rural areas to east-west corridors. Route description Madison County Highway 303 begins at Lollar's Creek Road (Madison CR 192) and runs northwest to terminate at Highway 74 east of Wesley. Washington County Highway 303 begins at Highway 45 at Mayfield and runs north through unincorporated Washington County to meet US Route 412 at Spring Valley near the historic Spring Valley School. The two routes participate in a concurrency east until Highway 303 turns north from US 412 near the Madison County line. The route then runs north towards War Eagle and becomes Benton CR 98 which eventually gives access to Highway 12 near Beaver Lake. Arkansas State Highway Commission
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. Spring Valley School District 120 Building
The Spring Valley School District 120 Building is a historic school building on County Road 379 in the small village of Spring Valley, Washington County, Arkansas, behind the Spring Valley Baptist Church. It is a single-story stone masonry structure with a hip roof and an entrance recessed under an arched corner porch. It was built in 1934, at the height of the Great Depression, apparently through local efforts, and is reflective of that period of public education in the Ozark region. Generally the two-digit odd numbered highways run north–south with a few exceptions; and even-numbered two-digit state highways run east–west with a few exceptions. Arkansas has long had a stigma of poor roads, dating from the "Arkansas Roads Scandal" playing a prominent role in state politics through the 1920s and 1930s, periodic allegations of corruption, waste, and fraud, and a long-running struggle to adequately fund the operation, maintenance and expansion of a large highway system serving a rural state. The state has received the designation of "worst roads in America" from several publications throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, with Interstate 30 and Interstate 40 often ranking particularly poorly among truckers. Rocky Branch School
The Rocky Branch School is a historic school building in rural eastern Benton County, Arkansas. It is located at the northern terminus of Arkansas Highway 303, where it joins with County Roads 85 and 99 (the latter being Rocky Branch Road), and stands opposite the Rocky Branch Church. It is a one-room schoolhouse, with two doors facing east. The school was built c. 1914 in the community of La Rue, and was moved to its present site c. 1960 when that community was inundated by the creation of nearby Beaver Lake. It is a well-preserved example of a country district schoolhouse, with little alteration since its construction. It was described as a "classic one-room school building." Beaver Lake (Arkansas)
Beaver Lake is a man-made reservoir in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas and is formed by a dam across the White River. Beaver Lake has some of shoreline. With towering limestone bluffs, natural caves, and a wide variety of trees and flowering shrubs, it is a popular tourist destination. Beaver Lake is the source of drinking water in Northwest Arkansas, which is managed, treated and sold by Beaver Water District. Beaver Dam Beaver Dam was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1944 and other following acts. The United States Army Corps of Engineers constructed Beaver Dam during the years 1960-1966, impounding a major part of the White River and creating Beaver Lake and flooding much of the valley including the remains of the historic resort town Monte Ne. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing.
