The route of runs from US Route 70 (US 70) and US 79 at Shearerville north across Interstate 40 (I-40) through rural Crittenden County to Highway 147 at Cunningham Corner. Route description Highway 218 begins at Shearerville at US 70 and continues south as US 79. The route runs north over Interstate 40 as exit 265 and continues northeast. Highway 218 has a junction with Highway 50 before passing through Julius and terminating at AR 147 at Cunningham Corner. Crittenden County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 50,902. The county seat is Marion, and the largest city is West Memphis. Located in the Arkansas Delta, Crittenden County is Arkansas's 12th county, formed October 22, 1825, and named for Robert Crittenden, the first Secretary of the Arkansas Territory. Crittenden County is part of the Memphis, TN-MS-AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The following is a list of state highways in Arkansas. The state does not use a numbering convention. Generally the two-digit odd numbered highways run north–south with a few exceptions; and even-numbered two-digit state highways run east–west with a few exceptions. Arkansas has long had a stigma of poor roads, dating from the "Arkansas Roads Scandal" playing a prominent role in state politics through the 1920s and 1930s, periodic allegations of corruption, waste, and fraud, and a long-running struggle to adequately fund the operation, maintenance and expansion of a large highway system serving a rural state. The state has received the designation of "worst roads in America" from several publications throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, with Interstate 30 and Interstate 40 often ranking particularly poorly among truckers. Interstate 40 (I-40) is an east–west Interstate Highway that has a section in the U.S. state of Arkansas, connecting Oklahoma to Tennessee. The route enters Arkansas from the west just north of the Arkansas River near Dora. Highway 147 (AR 147, Ark. 147, and Hwy. 147) is a north–south state highway in Crittenden County, Arkansas, United States. The route runs from Highway 131 at Bruins north across Interstate 40/ US Route 79 (I-40/US 70/US 79) to US 64 near West Memphis. A portion of the route make up the western routing of the Great River Road. Route description Highway 147 begins near Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas at the southern terminus of Highway 131. The route runs north to serve as the eastern terminus of Highway 38, with Highway 147 picking up the Great River Road designation northbound. Highway 50 (AR 50, Ark. 50, or Hwy. 50) is a designation for two east–west state highways in northeast Arkansas. A western route of runs east from St. Francis County Route 415 (CR 415) to Highway 147 near Anthonyville. A second route of begins at US Route 70 (US 70) and runs east to Highway 77 in Clarkedale. Route description Forrest City to Anthonyville Highway 50 begins at CR 415 north of Forrest City and runs south across Interstate 40 (I-40), although there is no interchange. The route continues south to Madison where it intersects US 70. The highway then crosses over the St. Francis River to enter Widener, where a concurrency begins with Highway 38.
