Waldo, Arkansas
Waldo is a town in Columbia County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,372 at the 2010 census. History Waldo celebrated its 120th year as a city in 2007. The small community was once a booming rail city on the Cotton Belt train route. The city has a rail museum with various displays showing its rail history. The city began to wane in population in the 1950s when neighboring Magnolia began drawing industry. Waldo was once home to the Waldo High School Bulldogs basketball teams. Consistently these teams made playoffs and on numerous occasions won the state championship. The legacy of Waldo School will carry on in the community despite its closing in 2005. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Haynesville, Louisiana
Haynesville is a town in northern Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, United States, located just south of the Arkansas border. The population was 2,327 at the 2010 census. Arkansas Highway 344 (1973–1978)
Highway 344 (AR 344, Ark. 344, and Hwy. 344) is a former east–west state highway in Columbia County, Arkansas. Between 1973 and 1978, the county road carried a state highway designation and was maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description The designation follows present-day Columbia County Route 85; beginning at AR 98 in the unincorporated community of Atlanta in the Piney Woods of South Arkansas. AR 344 ran east before curving south, roughly paralleling the Big Carnie Creek through a rural area. Arkansas Highway 3
Highway 3 (AR 3, Ark. 3, Hwy. 3, formerly State Road 3) was a state highway in southern Arkansas. Running predominantly southwest to northeast, its southern terminus was at the Louisiana state line approximately south of Magnolia, Arkansas. Its northern terminus was at U.S. Highway 64 approximately north of Lehi. It was maintained by the Arkansas Highway Department (AHD), now known as the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Between Magnolia and Lehi, Highway 3 was replaced in 1935 by US 79, splitting Highway 3 into 2 sections; one segment south of Lehi later became Highway 147 and Highway 50. In late 1936, Highway 3 had a third segment added between McNeil and Waldo. In 1939, the segment between Magnolia and the Louisiana state line was transferred to Highway 19. Highway 179 (AR 179, Ark. 179, and Hwy. 179) is a north–south state highway in Franklin County, Arkansas. Since 1998, the state highway designation has run from a county road intersection at the unincorporated community of Greenwood to US Highway 64 (US 64) in Altus. The highway is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Route description ArDOT maintains all three segments of AR 179 as part of the state highway system. Arkansas Highway 109
Highway 109 is a highway in western Arkansas. It runs from the Ouachita Mountains to the Arkansas River Valley in Logan and Johnson counties. There are no spur routes associated with this highway. Mount Magazine can be seen to the east on the southern portion of the route. It can also be seen south of the Highway 22 portion of the Route. One of the most famous feature on the route is the Morrison Bluff Bridge, also known as the Ada Mills Bridge, over the Arkansas River. This bridge claims to be the longest over the Arkansas River and also the longest bridge in Arkansas. Altus is a city in Franklin County, Arkansas, United States. Located within the Arkansas River Valley at the edge of the Ozark Mountains, the city is within the Fort Smith metropolitan area. The epicenter of the Altus American Viticultural Area (AVA) within Arkansas Wine Country, the city is home to four wineries. Although founded as a coal mining community, the wine industry has driven the Altus economy since the first vineyards were planted in 1872.
