Highway 161 (AR 161, Ark. 161, and Hwy. 161) is a designation for two state highways in Central Arkansas. Route descriptions One route of runs north from US Highway 70 (US 70) to Vandenberg Boulevard near the Little Rock Air Force Base. A second route of begins at U.S. Route 165/ Highway 15/ Highway 256 in England and runs north to terminate at Highway 165. Both routes are maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). El Paso is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southwestern White County, Arkansas, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 267. Its name is Spanish for "the pass", referring to a small gap in the hills on the community's northern edge. Orval Eugene Faubus ( ; January 7, 1910 – December 14, 1994) was an American politician who served as the 36th Governor of Arkansas from 1955 to 1967, as a member of the Democratic Party. In 1957, he refused to comply with a unanimous decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1954 case ''Brown v. Board of Education'', and ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent black students from attending Little Rock Central High School. This event became known as the Little Rock Crisis.
