Ariège (river)
The Ariège (; oc, Arièja; ca, Arieja) is a 163 km long river in southern France, right tributary of the Garonne. Its source is in the Pyrenees, near El Pas de la Casa, where it forms part of the border with Andorra. It flows north through the following towns in two departments: * In Ariège: Ax-les-Thermes, Les Cabannes, Tarascon-sur-Ariège, Montgailhard, Foix, Varilhes, Pamiers, Saverdun. * In Haute-Garonne: Cintegabelle, Auterive, Pinsaguel. Ax-les-Thermes
Ax-les-Thermes (; oc, Ax or ) is a commune in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region of south-western France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Axéens'' or ''Axéennes''. The commune has been awarded one flower by the ''National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom'' in the ''Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography Ax-les-Thermes is situated in the Pyrénées, close to Andorra, and stands on the confluence of the Oriège, Ariège and Lauze rivers. some 75 km west of Perpignan and 35 km north-east of Andorra la Vella. Access to the commune is by Route nationale N20 from Garanou in the north-west which passes through the village then south through the commune to Mérens-les-Vals. Cintegabelle
Cintegabelle (; oc, Senta Gabèla) is a commune in the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. Geography The commune is bordered by ten other communes, five of them is in Haute-Garonne and five of them is in Ariège: Auterive to the northwest, Mauvaisin to the north, Aignes to the northeast, Calmont to the east, Gaillac-Toulza to the southwest, and finally by the department of Ariège to the southeast, south, and southwest by the communes of Saint-Quirc and Lissac to the southwest, Labatut to the south, and Saverdun and Canté to the southeast. The Andorra–France border extends for in southern France ( Ariège and Pyrenees-Orientales départements) and northern and north-eastern Andorra. The border is France's third-shortest, after its borders with Monaco and the Netherlands (the latter on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin). Hers-Vif
The Hers-Vif (, "Live Hers", as opposed to the slower flowing Hers-Mort, "Dead Hers"), also named ''Grand Hers'' or simply ''Hers'', is a long river in southern France, right tributary of the Ariège. The Hers-Vif rises at an elevation of about near the Chioula Pass of the Pyrenees, approximately north of Ax-les-Thermes. It is the major tributary of the Ariège into whose right bank it flows upstream from Cintegabelle in the Haute-Garonne. It flows some through the Pyrenees, descending to the village of Peyrat, where it reaches a piedmont plain.
