Arizona–Arizona State Baseball Rivalry
The Arizona–Arizona State baseball rivalry is a college baseball rivalry between the University of Arizona Wildcats and the Arizona State University Sun Devils. Both programs are two of the most storied and successful in college baseball history, combining for a total of 9 College World Series championships, 40 College World Series appearances, 82 NCAA tournament appearances and 27 conference regular-season championships. Since Arizona State (then-Tempe Normal School) founded a baseball program in 1907 the teams have met 500 times. Arizona Wildcats Baseball
The Arizona Wildcats baseball team is the intercollegiate men's baseball program representing the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, United States. They compete in the Big 12 Conference (Big 12) of NCAA Division I. Arizona has won four college baseball national championships (1976 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1976, 1980 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1980, 1986 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1986 and 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 2012), the first three under Jerry Kindall and the most recent under Andy Lopez. Grand Canyon Antelopes Baseball
The Grand Canyon Antelopes baseball team represents Grand Canyon University, which is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The Antelopes, also known as the Lopes, are an NCAA Division I college baseball program competing in the Western Athletic Conference. They were in Division I from 1991 to 1998, the final four seasons in the WAC, and returned in 2014 with the WAC. GCU plays all home games on campus at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark. Over its 16 discontinuous seasons in the WAC, GCU has won six regular-season titles including five of the last six completed seasons. Eastern Michigan Eagles Baseball
The Eastern Michigan Eagles baseball team (formerly the Eastern Michigan Hurons) is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, United States. The team is a member of the Mid-American Conference West division, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Eastern Michigan's first baseball team was fielded in 1901. The team plays its home games at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Willie Bloomquist
William Paul "Willie" Bloomquist (; born November 27, 1977) is an American baseball coach and former utility player, who is the current head baseball coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils. He played college baseball at Arizona State for coach Pat Murphy from 1997 to 1999 and played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 14 seasons from 2002 to 2015. In 2021, he returned to his alma mater, Arizona State. The Seattle Mariners selected Bloomquist in the third round of the 1999 MLB draft. He played 14 years primarily an outfielder and shortstop, with Seattle from 2002 to 2008, the Kansas City Royals from 2009 to 2010, the Cincinnati Reds in 2010, the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2011 to 2013 before returning to Seattle from 2014 to 2015. Walter William "Chip" Hale (born December 2, 1964) is an American professional baseball infielder, coach (baseball), coach, and manager (baseball), manager. Hale played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1989 through 1997, and managed in MLB from 2015 through 2016. He was named head coach of the Arizona Wildcats baseball, Arizona Wildcats of the University of Arizona in July 2021. Jay Bradley Johnson (born April 20, 1977) is an American college baseball coach and former second baseman, who is the current head baseball coach of the LSU Tigers. He played college baseball at Shasta from 1997 to 1998 before transferring to Point Loma Nazarene. Tim Esmay
Tim Esmay is an American baseball coach. He is the former head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team. He was the head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team from prior to the 2010 season until the end of the 2014 season, when he announced his resignation. Esmay is an Arizona State alumnus, and he played baseball there from 1986–1987. After graduating from Arizona State in 1987, Esmay served as an assistant at Arizona State, Grand Canyon, and Utah. He was Utah's head coach from 1997–2004, before he was hired as an assistant at Arizona State prior to the 2005 season. From 2005–2009, Esmay served as an assistant under Pat Murphy. Andrew Lopez (born November 30, 1953) is an American former college baseball coach. He was most recently the head baseball coach at the Arizona Wildcats baseball, University of Arizona, and has served as the head baseball coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros baseball, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine Waves baseball, Pepperdine, and Florida Gators baseball, Florida. Patrick Thomas Murphy (born November 28, 1958) is an American professional baseball coach (baseball), coach and manager (baseball), manager who is the manager for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Jerry Stitt
Jerry Lewis Stitt (born November 29, 1946) is a retired American baseball coach, predominately in college baseball. Regarded as one of the top hitting coaches of his era, Stitt spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach to Jerry Kindall at the University of Arizona. During his time as an assistant he mentored many future MLB players such as J. T. Snow, Chip Hale, Kenny Lofton and Terry Francona among others, and helped lead the Wildcats to two College World Series championships (1980 and 1986). Upon Jerry Kindall's retirement in July 1996, Stitt was named the head coach for the Arizona Wildcats; he coached the team for five seasons.
