State Route 387, also known as SR 387, is a state highway in south-central Arizona, United States traveling from State Route 87 west of Coolidge west to Interstate 10, then south to its junction with State Route 84 and State Route 287 in Casa Grande. Route description SR 387 is a highway that connects Casa Grande with I-10 and SR 87. The southern terminus of the highway is located at an intersection with SR 84 and SR 287 in Casa Grande. It heads north through the city from this intersection to the Gila River Indian Reservation before reaching I-10. After the interchange with I-10, the highway intersects SR 187, with SR 387 turning towards the east at the intersection. Arizona Department Of Transportation
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT, pronounced "A-Dot") is an Arizona state government agency charged with facilitating mobility within the state. In addition to managing the state's state highways, highway system, the agency is also involved with public transportation and airport, municipal airports. The department was created in 1974 when the state merged the Arizona Highway Department with the Arizona Department of Aeronautics. ADOT was a pioneer in the use of rubberized asphalt as a method to increase durability and reduce road noise on state highways while providing an opportunity to tire recycling, recycle scrap tires. Its "Quiet Pavement" project started in 2003 surfaced about of Phoenix-area freeways with rubberized asphalt. Gila River Indian Reservation was a reservation established in 1859 by the United States government in New Mexico Territory, to set aside the lands of the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and the Piipaash (Maricopa) people along the Gila River, in what is now Pinal County, Arizona. The self-government of the reservation as the Gila River Indian Community was established by Congress in 1939. The U.S. state of Arizona's State Routes are usually abbreviated as SR. History The Arizona State Highway system was introduced on September 9, 1927, by the State Highway Commission (formed on August 11 of the same year). It incorporated the new federal aid system and also the U.S. Highway system. The 1927 plan included 27 state routes, most of which were simply dirt roads. Until 1942, the state route marker signs contained a Native American swastika that were used by Navajos, but were removed after the U.S.'s entry into World War II against Nazi Germany which had a reversed swastika as its emblem and became strongly negatively associated with the Nazis. The modern system was introduced and adopted in the 1950s. The Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) (O'odham language: Keli Akimel Oʼotham, ''meaning "Gila River People"'', Maricopa language: Pee-Posh) is an Indian reservation in the U.S. state of Arizona, lying adjacent to the south side of the city of Phoenix, within the Phoenix Metropolitan Area in Pinal and Maricopa counties. Gila River Indian Reservation was established in 1859, and the Gila River Indian Community formally established by Congress in 1939. The community is home for members of both the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and the Pee-Posh (Maricopa) tribes. The reservation has a land area of and a 2020 Census population of 14,260. Arizona State Route 93
Arizona State Route 93, abbreviated SR 93, was a state highway in Arizona that existed from 1946 to 1991. The route was co-signed with other highways along nearly all of its route from Kingman to the border at Nogales. SR 93 was the original designation for the highway from Kingman to Wickenburg, which was built in 1946. In 1965, the northern terminus of the state route was moved south to an unnamed desert junction with U.S. Route 89 just north of Wickenburg, and the southern terminus of U.S. Route 93 was moved south to the US 89 junction. The Arizona Highway Department sought U.S. Highway status for SR 93 across the rest of the state, but the proposal was never granted by AASHTO. State Route 187, also known as SR 187, is a state highway in south-central Arizona traveling from State Route 387 north of Casa Grande north to its junction with State Route 87 near Sacaton. The entire stretch of road runs in the Gila River Indian Reservation and is approximately long. It is a short-cut for traffic heading toward the southeast valley of Phoenix in case of an accident on westbound Interstate 10. State Route 287, also known as SR 287, is a predominantly east–west state highway in central Arizona. Originally, this highway number only applied to Florence-Coolidge Highway; the branch to Casa Grande was added later. Route description SR 287 begins in Florence at the intersection of Pinal Parkway Avenue SR 79 and Butte Avenue SR 79B, traveling westbound on Butte Avenue to Main Street where it turns south on Main to a "Y" junction near the southern end of Florence. SR 287 heads westbound to Coolidge as the Florence-Coolidge Highway. State Route 84, also known as SR 84, is a east–west highway in south-central Arizona, with its western terminus at Exit 151 of Interstate 8 and its eastern signed terminus at its junction with State Route 387 and State Route 287 in Casa Grande. An unsigned section, which is mostly maintained by local governments, runs from the SR 287 and SR 387 junction southeast through Arizola and Eloy. In the U.S. state of Arizona, Interstate 10 (I‑10), the major east–west Interstate Highway in the United States Sun Belt, runs east from California, enters Arizona near the town of Ehrenberg and continues through Phoenix and Tucson and exits at the border with New Mexico near San Simon.
