Arizona 4th Legislative District
Arizona's 4th legislative district is one of 30 in the state, consisting of a section of Maricopa County. As of 2023, there are 70 precincts in the district, all in Maricopa, with a total registered voter population of 168,929. The district has an overall population of 244,298. Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (AIRC) redrew legislative district boundaries in Arizona. According to the AIRC, the district is highly competitive politically. Political representation The district is represented in the 56th Arizona State Legislature, which convenes from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, by Christine Marsh ( D-Phoenix) in the Arizona Senate and by Matt Gress ( R-Phoenix) and Laura Terech ( D- Scottsdale) in the Arizona House of Representatives. Christine Marsh
Christine Porter Marsh is an American politician and public school teacher from Arizona. She was elected to the state senate in 2020. A Democrat, she was first elected to represent district District 28, and later District 4, after redistricting. She won by 497 votes (50.2%) against incumbent Kate Brophy McGee in an election with more than 120,000 votes cast. Marsh previously ran against Brophy McGee in 2018 and lost by 267 votes (49.9%). Christine Marsh taught high school English at Chaparral High School for 27 years, before leaving to teach in the Cave Creek Unified School district for two years. In 2019 and she returned to Scottsdale Unified School District and in 2021 started her 30th year of teaching. In 2016, Marsh was named Arizona's Teacher of the Year. Marsh received undergraduate degree from the University of California Los Angeles after attending on a track scholarship. Maria Mazzeo Syms (born January 10, 1968) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives elected to represent District 28 from 2017 to 2019. Syms is an Arizona Assistant Attorney General, a Paradise Valley Town Councilwoman and a former Assistant United States Attorney. She was also on the Paradise Valley planning Commission from 2003 until 2013. Nancy K. Barto (born in Chicago, Illinois) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Arizona State Senate from 2021 to 2023. She previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021 and the Arizona Senate representing District 15 from 2013 to 2019. The Arizona State House of Representatives is the lower house of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Arizona. The upper house is the Senate. Arizona Senate
The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents (2009 figures). Members serve two-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to four terms for a total of eight years. Members of the Republican Party are currently the majority in the Senate. There is currently 16 women serving in the Senate after Raquel Terán was appointed, making it the first time a majority of the body was composed of female members. As with the Arizona House of Representatives, members to the Senate are elected from the same legislative districts as House members, however one Senator represents the constituency, while for the House there are two Representatives per district.
