Arieh Rubin ( he, אריה רובין; born 1952) is an Israeli paralympic swimming (sport), swimming champion. He competed at the 1968 Summer Paralympics, 1968, 1972 Summer Paralympics, 1972 and 1976 Summer Paralympics, 1976, winning 9 medals Life Wengier was born in 1952 and contracted polio when he was nine months old. He was trained at the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled. At the 1968 Summer Paralympics, he won a gold medal with Baruch Hagai in the table tennis men's doubles tournament and three medals in swimming: 2 silver and one bronze. He won silver medals in the breaststroke swimming tournament for 100m and in the 3X25 individual medley tournament. He won the bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke swimming tournament. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. Israel Sports Center For The Disabled
The Israel Sports Center for the Disabled (ISCD; ) is an Israeli institution operated by ILAN aimed at rehabilitation of physically disabled people. History The ISCD was established in 1960 in Ramat Gan by ILAN activist Betty Dubiner. The land lot was provided by the municipality of Ramat Gan and the initial facilities were constructed partly due to a donation by Bella and Samuel Spewack from income made on their play Kiss Me, Kate. It was first of its kind in Israel and one of the few operating at the time worldwide. In its early years, the center was mostly used by Polio virus victims. In later years it was adjusted to serve those with Cerebral palsy, Israeli citizens injured during their military service with the IDF, survivors of car accidents and terrorist attacks and others with disabilities.
