Arie Romijn
Arie Romijn (born 4 December 1958 in Gorinchem) is a former Dutch professional footballer and coach of amateur squads. His position was forward. After professional football, he founded a trading company. Football career Romijn played in the youth of SVW Gorinchem, where his father was a forward before him. He also played one year in GVV Unitas, went back and made it into SVW's first squad at the age of 15. He was then scouted by Feyenoord. In 1978 Romijn made his debut in Feyenoord's first squad and continued the season on loan in FC Groningen. He transferred to FC Den Bosch, for which, during three years, he was the club's top scorer. Next came SBV Vitesse, a second run at FC Den Bosch, and RBC Roosendaal. Before RBC and after his professional career, Romijn played for SVW Gorinchem, GVV Unitas, and finally in GJS Gorinchem until 2014 (by then already in the 5th squad). The Eerste Klasse ( en, First Class) started as the 1st tier of football in the Netherlands and is now the 6th tier. The league is divided into eleven divisions, six for Saturday clubs and five for Sunday clubs. These divisions correspond to the six districts of the Royal Dutch Football Association: each district organises a Saturday competition and a Sunday competition, except for South II, which only has a Sunday competition. The Vierde Divisie, formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league is divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This is a result of the traditional pillarisation ( nl, verzuiling), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. The Eerste Divisie (, en, First Division) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away.
