Ariane Bonhomme
Ariane Bonhomme (born 2 April 1995 in Gatineau, Quebec) is a Canadian track cyclist, representing Canada at international competitions. She won the gold medal at the 2016 Pan American Track Cycling Championships in the team pursuit. Career Bonhomme qualified to represent Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Bonhomme qualified in 2024 to compete in her Second Olympics. Track Cycling
Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. These velodromes consisted of two straights and slightly banked turns, though they varied more in length and material than the modern 250m track. One appeal of indoor track racing was that spectators could be easily controlled, and hence an entrance fee could be charged, making track racing a lucrative sport. Early track races attracted crowds of up to 2,000 people. Indoor tracks also enabled year-round cycling for the first time. The main early centers for track racing in Britain were Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester and London. Cyclingnews.com is a website providing cycling news and race result owned by Future. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. In 1999 Sydney-based publishing company Knapp Communications purchased the website from Mitchell, and in July 2007 they sold it to British publisher Future plc for £2.2m. In July 2014 it was bought by Immediate Media Company, along with the print-only ''Procycling'' magazine. In February 2019, Immediate Media sold its cycling titles back to Future. Annie Foreman-Mackey (born 25 June 1991) is a Canadian professional racing cyclist. She won the bronze medal in the women's individual pursuit event at the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. She qualified to represent Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2022, she officially retired from cycling. Personal life Annie currently holds a Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences from McMaster University (2009-14) and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Toronto (2014-18) with a focus on harm reduction research and advocacy. 2017–18 UCI Track Cycling World Cup
The 2017–18 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (also known as the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup for sponsorship reasons) was a multi-race tournament over a track cycling season. It was the 26th series of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup organised by the UCI. The series was run from 3 November 2017 to 21 January 2018 and consisted of five rounds. Series On 11 May 2017 the UCI revealed the location and dates of the world cup meetings that took place in 2017. Four rounds took place in Pruszków, Poland, Manchester, Great Britain, Milton, Canada and Santiago, Chile. On 27 June 2017 the UCI expanded the World Cup to five events by adding Minsk, Belarus to the schedule for a round to take place in 2018. Pruszków ( yi, פּרושקאָוו) is a city in east-central Poland, situated in the Masovian Voivodeship since 1999. It was previously in Warszawa Voivodeship (1975–1998).
