Cutaway (filmmaking)
In film and video, a cutaway is the interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else. It is usually followed by a cut back to the first shot. A cutaway scene is the interruption of a scene with the insertion of another scene, generally unrelated or only peripherally related to the original scene. The interruption is usually quick, and is usually, although not always, ended by a return to the original scene. The effect is of commentary to the original scene, frequently comic in nature. Usage The most common use of cutaway shots in dramatic films is to adjust the pace of the main action, to conceal the deletion of some unwanted part of the main shot, or to allow the joining of parts of two versions of that shot. For example, a scene may be improved by cutting a few frames out of an actor's pause; a brief view of a listener can help conceal the break. Or the actor may fumble some of his lines in a group shot; rather than discarding a good version of t ... Metafiction
Metafiction is a form of fiction which emphasises its own narrative structure in a way that continually reminds the audience that they are reading or viewing a fictional work. Metafiction is self-conscious about language, literary form, and story-telling, and works of metafiction directly or indirectly draw attention to their status as artifacts. Metafiction is frequently used as a form of parody or a tool to undermine literary conventions and explore the relationship between literature and reality, life, and art. Although metafiction is most commonly associated with postmodern literature that developed in the mid-20th century, its use can be traced back to much earlier works of fiction, such as ''The Canterbury Tales'' (Geoffrey Chaucer, 1387), ''Don Quixote'' (Miguel de Cervantes, 1605), ''The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman'' (Laurence Sterne, 1759), and '' Vanity Fair'' (William Makepeace Thackeray, 1847). Metafiction became particularly prominent in the 1960 ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Life Of Larry And Larry & Steve
''The Life of Larry'' and ''Larry & Steve'' are two animated short films created by Seth MacFarlane in the mid-1990s that eventually led to the development of the animated sitcom ''Family Guy''. He originally created ''The Life of Larry'' as a thesis film in 1995 while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. His professor at RISD submitted MacFarlane's cartoon to Hanna-Barbera, where he was hired a year later. Later that year, MacFarlane created a sequel to ''The Life of Larry'' called ''Larry & Steve'' that features the main character of his first film, the middle-aged Larry, and an intellectual dog named Steve. MacFarlane was also hired as a writer for Disney's ''Jungle Cubs''. The short was broadcast as one of Cartoon Network's ''World Premiere Toons'' in 1997. Executives at Fox saw both ''Larry'' shorts and contracted MacFarlane to create a series based on the characters, to be called ''Family Guy''. The Untold Story
''The Untold Story'' is a 1993 Hong Kong crime- thriller film directed by Herman Yau and starring Danny Lee and Anthony Wong, with the former also serving as the film's producer. The film is based on the " Eight Immortals Restaurant murders" that took place on 4 August 1985 in Macau.http://www.takungpao.com.hk/FM/waxg/2015-10/3223610.html While the massacre involving a family of 10 did occur at the restaurant, the alleged cannibalism is sensationalism inferred from the incomplete discovery of the victims' corpse, only finding limbs, and that there was a lack of telltale smell of decomposition despite the summer tropical heat. The film was followed up by two unrelated sequels with '' The Untold Story 2'', featuring Wong returning in a supporting role, and ''The Untold Story 3'' with Lee returning in another role. Plot The story opens in 1978 with an argument in a small Hong Kong apartment. Wong Chi-hang (Anthony Wong) brutally beats a gambler named Keung (James Ha) to ...
