Ari Hoenig
Ari Hoenig (born November 13, 1973) is an American jazz drummer, composer, and educator. Educational materials Hoenig has taught and is on the faculty at New York University and The New School in New York. He gives clinics and lectures at music schools and universities worldwide. With bassist Johannes Weidenmueller, he released ''Intro to Polyrhythms Vol 1'', and ''Metric Modulations, Expanding and Contracting Time within Form Vol 2.'' (Mel Bay 2009, 2012) In 2011, he ''Systems Book 1, Drumming Technique and Melodic Jazz Independence'' (Alfred Publishing) and the DVD ''Melodic Drumming'' (2011). In 2014, Ari he released the video ''Rhythm Training'' about time and rhythmic vocabulary. In 2017, he released two videos: ''Mastering Odd Times'' and ''Drums: Jazz Coordination''. Moers Festival
The Moers Festival is an annual international music festival in Moers, Germany. The festival has changed from concentrating on free jazz to including world and pop music, though it still invites many avant-garde jazz musicians. Performers at Moers include Lester Bowie, Fred Frith, Jan Garbarek, Herbie Hancock, Abdullah Ibrahim, David Murray, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, and Cecil Taylor. Diego Barber
Diego Barber is a classical and jazz guitarist. He has recorded albums for Sunnyside and Origin Records. Early life Barber was born into a family of musicians. He studied at the Lanzarote Conservatory of Music with Miguel Ángel Calzadilla and took private lessons with Toñin Corújo. Years later, he enrolled at the Arturo Soria Conservatory in Madrid. He met José Ramón García, who taught him harmony, analysis, and composition. He received a degree in classical guitar from the Salamanca Higher Conservatory of Music. During his time at Salamanca, he took lessons from Costas Cotsiolis for one year in Atenas and from Ricardo Gallén. Barber attended the Mozarteum University of Salzburg where he completed his postgraduate studies with Marco Tamayo. Jacques Schwarz-Bart
Jacques Schwarz-Bart (born 22 December 1962 in Les Abymes) is a French jazz saxophonist. Biography His mother is the Guadeloupean novelist Simone Schwarz-Bart, author of ''The Bridge of Beyond''. His father was French-Jewish author André Schwarz-Bart. The family traveled widely, living in Senegal, Switzerland, and Goyave, Guadeloupe. Jacques Schwarz-Bart was dubbed "Brother Jacques" and his music has incorporated rhythm and blues as well as hip hop influences. Schwarz-Bart's first instrument was the Gwo ka drum which he learned to play as a child, coached by Anzala (one of the top percussionists on Guadeloupe). He also learned the biguine style of music. Josh Roseman
Josh Roseman (born 5 June 1967) is an American jazz trombonist. His nickname is "Mr. Bone". He studied in Newton North High School. Roseman was born in Boston, and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. Roseman toured Jamaica with The Skatalites and in Australia with the Christopher Hale Ensemble. He has also played with Steve Coleman, Dave Holland, Dave Douglas, Don Byron, John Zorn, Charlie Hunter, Mike Gordon, Soulive, Groove Collective, and Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Winner of the World Saxophone competition in 2005, Jamie is recognised as one of Australia's leading jazz artists, performing at festivals and clubs around the globe. Shahin Novrasli (born February 10, 1977) is an Azerbaijani jazz and classical pianist, and composer Early years Childhood Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 10 February 1977, Shahin is a descendant of celebrated 19th century Azerbaijani poet Mirza Alesker Novres. His father, professor Novras, and mother, economist Naila, instilled their sons with their own knowledgeable love for good music. At three years old, Shahin was already displaying an interest in music and rhythm. Julien Lourau
Julien Lourau (born 3/2/1970) is a French jazz saxophonist. He is the son of sociologist René Lourau. Julien Lourau made his début in the group Trash Corporation with guitarist Noël Akchoté and pianist Bojan Zulfikarpasic. He also founded the group Olympic Gramofon with Sébastien Martel, Vincent Ségal, Eric Löhrer, Cyril Atef, and DJ Shalom. In 1992, Julien Lourau won the first soloist prize in La Défense and went on to set up his Groove Gang. In 1999, he experimented with electronic music for his album ''Gambit'' which attracted a following from young French people and led to a number of successful concerts. James Maurice Hurt Jr is an American jazz pianist. Early life Hurt had early training as a drummer. Career Hurt was a member of Sherman Irby's quartet that played regularly at Smalls Jazz Club in New York City in the late 1990s. He plays mostly original compositions, which are strongly influenced by the Armenian folk tradition, often using its scales and modalities.
