Argentine Heavy Metal
The Argentine heavy metal is a heavy metal music movement that originated in Argentina in the 1980s. The first popular artist was Pappo, who created the band Riff influenced by the contemporary new wave of British heavy metal. V8 was formed at that time as well, and most of its members created notable bands after their respective departures from the band: Ricardo Iorio and Walter Giardino, currently in Almafuerte and Rata Blanca, are still popular. The second half of the 1980s saw the success of hard rock bands such as Kamikaze, Alakran and Rata Blanca, with an aesthetic similar to the contemporary glam metal. Thrash metal bands, such as Hermética, Horcas and Lethal, appeared in the late 80s and early 90s. Rata Blanca declined its popularity in the 1990s and eventually broke up. Hermética became more popular than V8 during its short existence, and broke up in a controversy between the leader Ricardo Iorio and the other members. Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. Lethal (Argentine Band)
Lethal is an Argentine heavy metal band, belonging to the subgenres thrash metal, speed metal. It was founded in 1988, by members of a band called ''Legión''. History The group formed in Villa Martelli in 1988. It was initially a traditional heavy metal band, but soon shifted to thrash metal. Their debut album was "Bienvenidos a mi reino" in 1990, which was recorded almost entirely in English and included the track "King of the Ring". The song was elected the best Argentine song of the year in a survey between readers of the '' Madhouse'' magazine. Glam Metal
Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads. It borrows heavily from the fashion and image of 1970s glam rock. Early glam metal evolved directly from the glam rock movement of the 1970s, as visual elements taken from acts such as T. Rex, the New York Dolls, and David Bowie (and to a lesser extent, the punk and new wave movements taking place concurrently in New York City) were fused with the decidedly more heavy metal leaning and theatrical acts such as Alice Cooper and Kiss. Estadio Arquitecto Ricardo Etcheverry
Estadio Arquitecto Ricardo Etcheverri, formerly known as Estadio Ferro Carril Oeste, is a stadium located in the Caballito district of Buenos Aires. It is the home venue of Club Ferro Carril Oeste. The stadium, opened in 1905 and located close to Caballito station of Sarmiento Line, has a current capacity of 24,442. Inaugurated on 2 January 1905, Ferro Carril Oeste is the oldest football stadium of Argentina (referring to clubs affiliated to AFA) and the second in South America after Estadio Gran Parque Central (home venue of Uruguayan Club Nacional de Football, built in 1900). Because of being located near the geographic centre of Buenos Aires, several former clubs used it as their home venues. ''Metal'' was an Argentine heavy metal music magazine edited from 1984 to 1995. It was published by Magendra, which also published the ''Pelo'' magazine, devoted to mainstream rock and pop. ''Metal'' was the first heavy metal magazine published in Argentina. The initial interviews were taken from foreign magazines, but years later they got their own ones with correspondents, or by telephone interviews. The magazine started as a black & white publication with a few pages in color. More color pages were included as years went by. Pescado Rabioso
Pescado Rabioso (Rabid Fish) were an Argentinian rock band led by Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta from 1971 to 1973. Initially a trio accompanied by drummer Black Amaya and bassist Osvaldo "Bocón" Frascino, they became a quartet with the addition of keyboardist Carlos Cutaia. Finally, David Lebón replaced Frascino in 1972 and featured on the album Pescado 2. In spite of their short life, they are still considered an important and influential piece of Argentine rock history. They were the second major band of Spinetta, created after Almendra's break up in the late 1960s and a seven-month trip through Brazil, United States and Europe. Although labeled under the band's name due to legal terms with his record company, Pescado Rabioso's final album ''Artaud'' is actually a complete solo effort from Spinetta. Vox Dei (Latin, 'Voice of God') is an Argentine rock band credited for recording the country's first concept album, '' La Biblia''. Their most prolific years were the 1970s, when they recorded ten albums. Vox Dei have had several line-up changes and a five-year hiatus. Their third and most commercially successful line-up featured Ricardo Soulé (guitar and vocals), Willy Quiroga (bass and vocals) and Rubén Basoalto (drums). This line-up was active from 1972 to 1974 (then in 1978 to the 1981 break-up), and was revived from 1986 to 1989, and again from 1996 to 1998. El Reloj
"El reloj" () is a song of the bolero genre, with music and lyrics by Mexican composer and singer Roberto Cantoral, then a member of the Los Tres Caballeros trio. History Cantoral composed the song in 1956, in Washington D.C., in front of the Potomac River, at the end of a Los Tres Caballeros tour of the United States. During the tour he had had an affair with one of the girls participating in the show, who was to return to New York the next morning. This love episode, and the presence of a lounge clock during their last meeting, were the events that inspired Cantoral, who would soon turn the relatively trivial episode into the story of a deep love. Norberto Aníbal Napolitano (March 10, 1950 – February 25, 2005), popularly known as Pappo, was an Argentine rock musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was and is one of the most influential figures in Argentine music, and in addition to being one of the forerunners of Argentine rock. Besides, he was one of the first to venture into heavy metal in his country and blues of the same. He is considered by various musicians in his country, by the public and by the specialized press as the best guitarist in the entire history of argentine rock, while B. B. King considered him one of the best guitarists of all time.
