The Argentine Senior Open, or Campeonato Abierto Senior, is a senior men's professional golf tournament held in Argentina that was founded in 1987. The first winner was 63-year-old Roberto De Vicenzo. The most successful player is Horacio Carbonetti Horacio Carbonetti (born 17 November 1947) is an Argentine professional golfer. Roberto De Vicenzo
Roberto De Vicenzo (14 April 1923 – 1 June 2017) was a professional golfer from Argentina. He won a record 229 professional tournaments worldwide during his career, including seven on the PGA Tour and most famously the 1967 Open Championship. He is perhaps best remembered for signing an incorrect scorecard that kept him out of a playoff for the 1968 Masters Tournament. Biography De Vicenzo was born on 14 April 1923 in Villa Ballester, a northern suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was raised in the Villa Pueyrredón neighborhood of Buenos Aires, and acquired the game of golf as a caddie. He developed his skills at the Ranelagh Golf Club, and later relocated to the town of the same name. De Vicenzo won his first Argentine tournament, the Abierto del Litoral, in 1942; his first World Cup in 1953; and a major tournament, The Open Championship, in 1967. Horacio Carbonetti
Horacio Carbonetti (born 17 November 1947) is an Argentine professional golfer. He is the brother of golfer Luis Carbonetti. Carbonetti was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. He won multiple amateur tournaments, mostly in Argentina. In 1976, he lost by playoff the Simon Bolivar Cup Professional Championship in Venezuela. He turned professional in 1977. In his debut tournament as a professional, Carbonetti was second at the Metropolitan Open behind Florentino Molina in 1977. In 1980, he shot a 64 in the second round of The Open Championship, at Muirfield, setting a new course record. He won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 1980 and the Cordoba Tour Order of Merit in 2001. He played on the European Tour from 1978 to 1981. Armando Saavedra
Armando Saavedra (born 27 September 1954) is an Argentine professional golfer. Born in Chile, Saavedra worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1974. Saavedra won the Argentine Professional Ranking in 1979, but only competed in four major championships, in the British Open in 1979, 1980, 1985 and 1990. He competed on the European Tour from 1978 to 1979 and from 1985 to 1992 and obtained three top ten finishes: T8 at the Scandinavian Enterprise Open in 1979, T5 at the Peugeot Open de France in 1986 and 7th at the Open Renault de Baleares in 1990. He competed on the Canadian Tour in 1979 and his best finish was third in the Canadian PGA Championship. In 1985, Saavedra lost in a playoff at the Kentab Open (Sweden). Florentino Molina
Florentino Molina (born 30 December 1938) is an Argentine professional golfer. Molina was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. He turned pro in 1960. He won the Argentine Open five times and the Argentine Professional Rankings four times. He played on the PGA Tour from 1975 to 1980 and the European Tour in 1981. He was second in French Open in 1970 and 4th in the B.C. Open in 1977. He was second in Argentine Open in 1962 and the Brazil Open in 1970. Molina played in the British Open five times (1970, 1971, 1974, 1978 and 1981), and once in the U.S. Open (1977), when he was one of seven players tied for the lead after the first round.
