Argentina Davis Cup Team
The Argentina men's national tennis team represents Argentina in Davis Cup tennis competition and is governed by the ''Asociación Argentina de Tenis''. As of 2016, the team has competed in the World Group since 2002 and reached the finals five times ( 1981, 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2016), winning the cup for the first time in the 2016 edition by defeating Croatia in the final. Argentina is currently #15 in the ITF Davis Cup rankings. History Argentina's Davis Cup debut in 1921 started on the wrong foot with a walkover loss to Denmark in the first round. Marat Mubinovich Safin ( rus, Мара́т Муби́нович Са́фин, , mɐˈrat ˈsafʲɪn, Ru-Marat-Safin.ogg; tt-Cyrl, Марат Мөбин улы Сафин; born 27 January 1980) is a Russian retired world No. 1 tennis player and former politician. The Russia men's national tennis team until it was suspended in 2022 represented Russia in Davis Cup tennis competition. It is governed by the Russian Tennis Federation. The team started playing in 1993. Russia has won the Davis Cup twice, in 2002 and 2006. In addition, the team of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) won the Davis Cup in 2021. The Sweden Davis Cup team represents Sweden in Davis Cup tennis competition and is governed by the Swedish Tennis Association. As of 2019, Sweden is the 5th most successful nation in Davis Cup history, having won the title 7 times, 6 of which have been recorded since 1981 when the tiered system and the World Group were created, which makes the Swedish team the most successful one in this modern period.
