Argentina at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California was the nation's sixth appearance out of nine editions of the Summer Olympic Games. Argentina sent to the 1932 Summer Olympics its third national team, under the auspices of the Argentine Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico Argentino), 33 athletes (all males) that competed in 30 events in 6 sports: athletics, boxing, fencing, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. They brought home 4 Olympic medals: one gold medal in the marathon, and 2 gold medals and one silver medal in boxing. Ernest Alvia "Smokey" Smith (3 May 1914 – 3 August 2005) was a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was the last living Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross. Early life and career Born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Smith came of age during the Great Depression and, along with many others, struggled to find steady employment. He was 25 when he joined the Canadian Army on 5 March 1940, becoming part of The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. In 1943, he first entered into combat. Carmine R. DiBartholomeo, better known as Carmen Barth (September 13, 1912 – September 17, 1985), was a male American boxer who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. Edward Flynn (boxer)
Edward Loring Flynn (October 25, 1909 – February 7, 1976) was an American boxer who won the gold medal in the 1932 Summer Olympics as a welterweight. He was also a member of the Loyola Wolf Pack boxing team. He was born in New Orleans and died in Tampa, Florida. Amateur career Flynn was the U.S. amateur champion in both 1931 and 1932. In 1932, he won the gold medal in the welterweight class after winning the final against Erich Campe. Post-Olympics After his gold medal in Los Angeles, he fought professionally, compiling a record of 14-1. Flynn was drafted into the armed services in 1935, remaining in uniform until the end of World War II.
