Carolyn Arends
Carolyn Arends is a Canadian contemporary Christian musician, songwriter, and author. She is based in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Musical career Arends began her career as a songwriter at Benson Music Publishing. In 1995, Carolyn began touring and releasing albums as a singer and guitarist. Her debut release that year (''I Can Hear You'') was released through Reunion Records. ''I Can Hear You'' reached No. 37 on Billboard Magazine's Contemporary Christian Chart in 1996. ''Feel Free'' peaked at No. 10 on the chart in 1997. More recently her albums have been distributed by Signpost Music ( Steve Bell's label). She is the winner of two Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and six GMA Canada Covenant Awards. Georg Arends
Georg Adalbert Arends (1863–1952) was a German horticulturist. He is best known for his work with herbaceous perennial plants. Education and training Arends was born to the nurseryman Karl Arends and Sophie Steckel on 21 September 1863 in Essen, Prussia. Since he was the seventh of twelve children and was not the eldest son, he was not expected to inherit the family's plant nursery. He nevertheless became interested in plants, training at Geisenheim Grape Breeding Institute and completing an apprenticeship at the Botanical Garden of Breslau. Arends moved to the United Kingdom in 1885, where he was exposed to a relaxed garden style that differed from the German trend in putting more emphasis on perennials than on shrubs. After a year of working in a nursery in Tottenham, Arends went to the Imperial Free City of Trieste, where he was trained by Giulio Perotti. Isabel Arends
Isabel W.C.E. Arends (born 1966) is a Dutch chemist and professor of biocatalysis and organic chemistry at Utrecht University. She was appointed dean of its Faculty of Science in July 2018. Her research specializes in environmentally-friendly, or 'green', chemistry; for example, using enzymes as biocatalysts while avoiding the need for toxic solvents. Academic career Arends studied physical organic chemistry at Leiden University between 1984 and 1988, obtaining an MsC. In 1993 she obtained her PhD at the same university with a thesis titled: 'Thermolysis of arene derivatives with coal-type hydrogen donors', studying with Prof. Rob Louw and Dr. Peter Mulder.
