Area Code 727
Area code 727 covers Pinellas County, Florida (including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Pinellas Park, among many other municipalities, but excluding the majority of Oldsmar), and the western third of Pasco County (including Port Richey, New Port Richey, and Holiday). For 43 years, the 13 counties around Tampa Bay, including cities such as Sarasota, Ellenton, and Port Charlotte were in area code 813. In 1998, Pinellas County and the western part of Pasco County were split into area code 727. 727 was going to be introduced in an overlay plan, to overlay 813. At the time, overlays were a new concept and since overlays result in mixing area codes within the same area (issuing the new code to new numbers) requiring 10-digit dialing, they were often met with public resistance. GTE (now part of Frontier Communications), the dominant carrier in most of the Tampa Bay Area, switched the proposal to a split plan. The split largely followed county lines, with the notable exceptio ...

Area Codes In Florida
Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a region on the plane or on a curved surface. The area of a plane region or ''plane area'' refers to the area of a shape or planar lamina, while ''surface area'' refers to the area of an open surface or the boundary of a three-dimensional object. Area can be understood as the amount of material with a given thickness that would be necessary to fashion a model of the shape, or the amount of paint necessary to cover the surface with a single coat. It is the two-dimensional analogue of the length of a curve (a one-dimensional concept) or the volume of a solid (a three-dimensional concept). The area of a shape can be measured by comparing the shape to squares of a fixed size. In the International System of Units (SI), the standard unit of area is the square metre (written as m2), which is the area of a square whose sides are one metre long. A shape with an area of three square metres would have the same area as three such squares. ...

Area Codes In The United States
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) divides the territories of its members into geographic numbering plan areas (NPAs). Each NPA is identified by one or more numbering plan area codes (''NPA codes'', or ''area codes''), consisting of three digits that are prefixed to each local telephone number having seven digits. Numbering plan areas may be assigned multiple area codes to provide adequate numbering resources, in which case the local numbering plan is called an overlay. Area codes are also assigned for non-geographic purposes. The rules for numbering NPAs do not permit the digits ''0'' and ''1'' as the leading digit, which also applies for central office codes.AT&T (1955) ''Notes on Distance Dialing'' NPAs with ''9'' as the second digit are reserved for future format expansion. Area codes with two identical trailing digits are considered easily recognizable codes (ERC), which are reserved, or used for systemwide services. Area codes in numerical order 200–299 300–399 ...

Area Code 813
Area code 813 is an area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the city of Tampa, Florida, and surrounding areas such as Zephyrhills and Oldsmar. Due to complete exhaustion of central office prefixes in area code 813, Area code 656 came in service on February 22, 2022, being overlaid with 813. The northeastern portion of Pasco County has area code 352, while the western portion uses area code 727. History Area code 813 became Florida's second area code in 1953, when numbering plan area 305, which originally comprised all of the State of Florida, was split. The new number plan area stretched along the Gulf Coast from Pasco County to Collier County and included the cities of St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Lakeland. On March 3, 1996, thi ...

Gulf Of Mexico
The Gulf of Mexico ( es, Golfo de México) is an ocean basin and a marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean, largely surrounded by the North American continent. It is bounded on the northeast, north and northwest by the Gulf Coast of the United States; on the southwest and south by the Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo; and on the southeast by Cuba. The Southern U.S. states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, which border the Gulf on the north, are often referred to as the " Third Coast" of the United States (in addition to its Atlantic and Pacific coasts). The Gulf of Mexico took shape approximately 300 million years ago as a result of plate tectonics.Huerta, A.D., and D.L. Harry (2012) ''Wilson cycles, tectonic inheritance, and rifting of the North American Gulf of Mexico continental margin.'' Area Code 941
Area code 941 is an area code in Florida. Introduced on March 3, 1996, it includes the counties of Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte, areas along the Sun Coast of southwestern Florida, USA. It is the area code for North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Before the 941 area code, the region was originally 305, then area code 813. Prior to October 2021, area code 941 had telephone numbers assigned for the central office code 988. In 2020, ''988'' was designated nationwide as a dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which created a conflict for exchanges that permit seven-digit dialing. This area code was therefore scheduled to transition to ten- ...

North American Numbering Plan
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) is a telephone numbering plan for twenty-five regions in twenty countries, primarily in North America and the Caribbean. This group is historically known as World Zone 1 and has the international calling code ''1''. Some North American countries, most notably Mexico, do not participate in the NANP. The NANP was originally devised in the 1940s by the AT&T Corporation, American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) for the Bell System and the independent telephone operators in North America. The goal was to unify the diverse local numbering plans that had been established in the preceding decades and prepare the continent for direct-dialing of calls by customers without the involvement of telephone operators. AT&T continued to administer the numbering plan until the breakup of the Bell System, when administration was delegated to the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA), a service that has been procured from the private sect ...

List Of Florida Area Codes
This is a list of area codes in the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2022, Florida is serviced with twenty telephone area codes, having reserved two additional codes in planning stages. When the first nationwide telephone numbering plan was introduced in 1947, the entire state was a single numbering plan area with area code 305. In 1953, area code 813 was introduced for the western coast of Florida, and 904 was assigned for northern Florida in 1965. In 1988, area code 407 was introduced for the Orlando area. In 1995, area code 954 was introduced for Broward County. In 1996, area code 239 was introduced for southwest Florida and area code 352 for the areas around Gainesville and Ocala. Many new area codes were introduced in the first two decades of the 21st Century, as a result of city expansion and growth of telecommunication services.
