Area code 253 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for a part of the U.S. state of Washington, including the area south of Seattle and of the southern Puget Sound area, centered at Tacoma and extending to include the areas around Gig Harbor, Auburn, and Roy. It also serves the western half of Pierce County, as well as southern King County. The area code commenced service on April 27, 1997, as part of a three-way split of area code 206. The other of the three is area code 425. In the lead-up to the switchover, John Keister, on his television comedy show ''Almost Live!'', lampooned the fact that Renton wanted to join the 425 area code to be associated with the relatively wealthy Eastside, which includes Bellevue. Area code 564 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Western Washington state, including the city of Seattle. The area code serves an overlay complex for a region that comprises the numbering plan areas 206, 253, 360, and 425. History Area code 564 was originally proposed and approved in 2000, but was not implemented until July 29, 2017. Initially, it was implemented as a concentrated overlay for the 360 area, comprising all of western Washington outside of the core of the Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan area. While it is to be extended to include other area codes in the region as they exhaust, its implementation has made ten-digit dialing mandatory in all of western Washington. Lake Tapps, Washington
Lake Tapps is a reservoir in Pierce County, Washington. It was created in 1911 by Puget Sound Power & Light and operated for hydroelectric power until it ceased power production in 2004. In December 2009 PSE sold the reservoir to thCascade Water Alliance a municipal corporation whose members are five King County cities (Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, and Tukwila) and two water and sewer districts (Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District, and the Skyway Water and Sewer District). Cascade provides drinking water to more than 350,000 residents and more than 20,000 businesses. It plans to eventually use Lake Tapps as a municipal water supply source for customers of its members. Cascade has signed an agreement with the Lake Tapps homeowners that guarantees full recreational reservoir levels throughout the summer. Lakewood is a city in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 63,612 at the 2020 census. History Lakewood was officially incorporated on February 28, 1996. Historical names include Tacoma/Lakewood Center and Lakes District (this name was used by the U.S. Census in the 1970 and 1980 Census). Graham is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington, United States. It is located 16 miles southeast of Tacoma. The population was 23,491 at the 2010 census and grew to 32,658 at the 2020 census. Fox Island is an island and census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington, United States, in Puget Sound. It is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) from Gig Harbor. The island was named Fox by Charles Wilkes during the United States Exploring Expedition, to honor J.L. Fox, an assistant surgeon on the expedition. The population was 3,633 at the 2010 census. Geography Fox Island is located at (47.244053, -122.619906). There is a dock on the north side of the island. The waters around the island are used for fishing and scuba diving. Fife is a city in Pierce County, Washington, United States and a suburb of Tacoma. The population was 10,999 at the 2020 census. Fife is contained within the Puyallup Indian Reservation. History The lower Puyallup basin is the ancestral home of the Puyallup people, who were relocated after the signing of the Medicine Creek Treaty in 1854. The treaty ceded Puyallup lands and created the Puyallup Indian Reservation, which was expanded to include modern-day Fife. The land on which the city sits was lost after the signing of the General Allotment Act in 1887 and other land transfers that were later resolved in a 1990 claims settlement.
