The Ardre () is a fifth order river in France which flows into the Vesle (left tributary) thence into the Aisne, Oise and Seine. It is long. Geography The river lies to the west of Reims and flows on bearing of about 310° from the Parc Régional de la Montagne de Reims to enter the Vesle at Fismes. It rises at an altitude of about and descends over a course of , to about in Fismes. It is crossed by the Paris to Reims motorway, A4/E50 about halfway along the river's length. Its geology is comparable with that of the lower Thames valley and south Hampshire. Though the chalk of the Champagne plateau is not far away, towards Reims, the immediate surroundings are of middle Eocene but the river has cut down into lower Eocene clay deposits like those at Chichester. Consequently, the landscape is much more wooded than that typical of Champagne. Ardre, Gotland
Ardre () is a populated area, a ''socken'' (not to be confused with parish), on the Swedish island of Gotland. It comprises the same area as the administrative Ardre District, established on 1January 2016. It is most noted for the Viking Ardre image stones found under the floor boards of the Ardre Church. Geography Ardre is situated on the central east coast of Gotland, with the island's oldest seaside resort Ljugarn as the main locality in the socken. Ardre Image Stones
The Ardre image stones are a collection of ten rune and image stones, dated to the 8th to 11th centuries, that were discovered at Ardre Church, in Ardre, Gotland, Sweden. The principal edition is by Sune Lindqvist. Description The Ardre image stones were re-used as paving under the wooden floors of the local church in the Ardre parish of Gotland. Before the historical significance of rune and image stones was understood or appreciated, they were often used as materials in the construction of roads, bridges, and buildings. The image stones were re-discovered when the church was being restored around 1900. The stones are now preserved in the Swedish Museum of National Antiquities in Stockholm.
