Beto y sus Canarios are a regional Mexican band formed in Huetamo, Michoacán, Mexico. It was founded in 1987 by Gabino García and Edilberto Portillo. After releasing several albums, in 2001 the group released their album Tuve una novia, featuring the single Noche eterna, which became a number-one hit in the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. The Huetamo-raised group in company with their compatriots, La Dinastía de Tuzantla are two pioneers in exploiting Tierra Caliente music. History The versatile Calentano group Beto y Sus Canarios was formed in 1987 in Huetamo, Michoacán, Mexico, in the Tierra Caliente region (Spanish for ''Hot Land''). Tierra Caliente music (''música de Tierra Caliente'' in Spanish) is a genre of Regional Mexican music. History Tierra Caliente music originated in the late 1980s in Mexico's Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán. The genre was influenced by the Technobanda sound, essentially using the same instruments such as vocals, electric keyboards, electric bass, trumpets, trombones, saxophones and drums. Some bands also utilize accordions. Tierra Caliente emphasizes the electric keyboard, giving the genre its own signature keyboard riff. The genre's popularity was originally limited to the regions in Mexico it is named after, as well as among the Mexican population from said regions living in the United States, but starting in the mid-2000s, its popularity spread to other regions in Mexico, mainly in the country's central states, as well as the Mexican community from said regions residing in the United States. ''Norteño'' or ''Norteña'' (, ''northern''), also ''música norteña'', is a genre of Regional Mexican music. The music is most often based on duple and triple metre and its lyrics often deal with socially relevant topics, although there are also many norteño love songs. The accordion and the bajo sexto are traditional norteño's most characteristic instruments. Norteña music developed in the late 19th century, as a mixture between local Mexican music and Austrian-Czech-origin folk music. The genre is popular in both Mexico and the United States, especially among the Mexican and Mexican-American community, and it has become popular in other Spanish-speaking countries as far as Colombia and Chile.
