Ardent Records
Ardent Records is an American record label based in Memphis, which was founded by John Fry in 1959. Ardent of the 1960s and 1970s featured pop music acts and was distributed by Stax Records from 1972 until 1975. It is best remembered today for Big Star, whose first two albums, released in 1972 and 1974, helped define the style known as power pop. The label was initially an attempt by the R&B-focused Stax to move into rock music, but distribution problems prevented any releases from succeeding. Big Star became widely known through 1980s reissues and the long delayed first release of Third/Sister Lovers, recorded in 1974. The label was revived in the 1990s with two divisions: Alternative Mainstream and Contemporary Christian. Former Big Star guitarist Alex Chilton released recordings on the Ardent mainstream division, which also released recordings by bands such as Spot, Jolene, Two Minutes Hate, The Idlewilds, Neighborhood Texture Jam, and Techno-Squid Eats Parliament. John Fry (record Producer)
John Edward Fry (December 31, 1944 – December 18, 2014) was the founder of Ardent Records in Memphis, Tennessee, which includes Ardent Studios; two record labels, Ardent Records (Christian label) and Ardent Music (mainstream label); and a production company, Ardent Film Department. The business was founded in 1959. It moved into commercial spaces at 1457 National Street in 1966. Music career Fry engineered and produced an eclectic array of records. , Ardent Studios had recorded over 70 gold and platinum albums and singles, many for Stax Records. He was best known for his work on the first three Big Star albums and as the band's mentor. Jonah33 is an American Christian hard rock band from Arkansas, U.S. that formed in 2002. In an interview with the band, it was explained that the name is derived from the first sentence of Jonah 3:3 in the Old Testament. Jonah33 released one extended play and three studio albums before disbanding in 2008, and later reformed in 2014. Jeremy Horn is a contemporary Christian music artist, songwriter, and guitarist. Biography Jeremy Horn was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and began playing the guitar at 15. Neighborhood Texture Jam is a Memphis, Tennessee rock band who fuse elements of punk, industrial and funk into a heavy, rhythmic rock sound. Notable for a member responsible for providing the "texture" - an ever-changing assembly of 55-gallon oil drums, hub caps, corrugated sheet metal, household appliances and other found objects that serve as auxiliary percussion. The band was originally formed in 1984 at Rhodes College by Joe Lapsley and Ed Scott. The first incarnation of the band lasted three gigs before breaking up. Eric Gales (born October 29, 1974), also known as Raw Dawg, is an American blues rock guitarist, originally hailed as a child prodigy. , Gales has recorded nineteen albums for major record labels and has done session and tribute work. Christopher Branford Bell (January 12, 1951December 27, 1978) was an American musician, guitarist, singer, and songwriter.
