Indigitamenta
In ancient Roman religion, the ''indigitamenta'' were lists of deities kept by the College of Pontiffs to assure that the correct divine names were invoked for public prayers. These lists or books probably described the nature of the various deities who might be called on under particular circumstances, with specifics about the sequence of invocation. The earliest ''indigitamenta'', like many other aspects of Roman religion, were attributed to Numa Pompilius, second king of Rome. Sources The books of the Pontiffs are known only through scattered passages preserved throughout Latin literature. Varro is assumed to have drawn on direct knowledge of the lists in writing his now-fragmentary theological books, which were used as a reference by the Church Fathers for their mocking catalogues of minor deities. Sir David Arculus (born 2 June 1946), is a British media figure, businessman and advisor to Government who has appeared several times in ''The Sunday Times'' Power 100, ranked at number 39 in 2005. Education Educated at Bromsgrove School (Wendron House) and Oriel College, University of Oxford and the London Business School, he started his career as a writer and was a producer for the BBC from 1968 to 1974. He joined EMAP in 1972, and took it from being a small regional newspaper publisher to a large media group. Richard Arculus
Richard John Arculus is an Australian petrology, petrologist and volcanologist, formerly a professor of the School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University. His research interests and areas of expertise include inorganic geochemistry, igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology, volcanology, and chemical oceanography. Arculus graduated with a British undergraduate degree classification#First-class honours, first-class degree in Geology from Durham University in 1970. He then earned a PhD from the same institution in 1973. Following his time at Durham he was a post-doctoral fellow of the Carnegie Institution for Science. Ronald Arculus
Sir Ronald Arculus (11 February 1923 – 28 August 2016) was a British ambassador and businessman. Career Ronald Arculus was educated at Solihull School and Exeter College, Oxford. He served in the 4th Queen's Own Hussars 1942–45, then joined the Diplomatic Service in 1947. Besides postings at the Foreign Office (later the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) he served in British missions at San Francisco, La Paz, Ankara and Washington, D.C., as deputy Consul-General at New York, and as Minister (Economic) at the embassy in Paris. He led the UK delegation to the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III), with the rank of ambassador, at New York 1977–79. He was ambassador to Italy 1979–83, his last diplomatic post before retirement.
