Filippo Archinto
Filippo Archinto (1495–1558), born in Milan, was an Italian lawyer, papal bureaucrat, bishop, and diplomat. He served as Governor of Rome and then papal Vicar of Rome. He was personally esteemed both by the Emperor Charles V and by Pope Paul III. He was Bishop of Borgo San Sepolcro (1539–1546), Bishop of Saluzzo (1546–1556), and Archbishop of Milan (1556–1558). Biography Archinto was born on 5 July 1495. He was the second son of Cristoforo Archinto, whose ancestor Manfredo had helped found the monastery of Chiaravalle near Milan in 1135, and Maddalena Torriani. His brothers were Giovanni Battista, who was a soldier and an ambassador of the Emperor Charles V, and Alessandro, who became a regional quaestor in the city of Milan. Filippo was sent by his father to study at Pavia, but at the age of 20 he was summoned back to Milan to be at his father's deathbed. Giuseppe Archinto
Giuseppe Archinto (or ''Archinti''; 1651–1712) was an Italian diplomat, Cardinal and Archbishop of Milan from 1699 to 1712. Early life Giuseppe Archinto was born in Milan on 9 April 1651 (or on 7 May according to other sources). He studied under the Jesuits in the College of Brera in Milan. In 1665 he entered in the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome. Later he studied for two years in University of Ingolstadt in Germany. He lived also one year in Vienna and took the opportunity to visit also Hungary, Denmark, France, England and Spain. Returned in Italy, he earned a doctorate in utroque iure at the University of Pavia on 14 September 1675 and became a lawyer. In this period he moved to Rome where he entered in the administration of the Papal States: in 1679 he became protonotary apostolic, and in 1683 he became referendary of the Tribunals of the Apostolic Signature. Carlo Archinto
Count Carlo Archinto (30 July 1669 – 17 December 1732) was an Italian aristocrat and patron of the arts. He was born into the aristocratic Archinto family and was educated initially under the Jesuits at the Brera Academy of Milan. He then studied with he Jesuits at the University of Ingolstadt. He travelled as a young man through France, Germany, Holland, and his native Italy and returned in Milan in 1700. In 1702, he founded a scholarly academy, which met at his palace. He collaborated with Filippo Argelati to publish the epic history by Muratori, titled ''Scriptores Rerum Italicarum''. He was rewarded with appointments by the Hapsburg rulers. Alberico Archinto
Alberico Archinto (8 November 1698 – 30 September 1758) — was an Italian cardinal and papal diplomat. Biography Archinto entered the Roman Curia in 1724. Twelve years later he was ordained to the priesthood, and on 1 November 1739 received episcopal consecration as titular archbishop of Nicea. Then he served as papal nuncio in Grand Duchy of Tuscany (1739–1746) and in Poland (1746–1754). He returned to Rome in 1754 and assumed the posts of governor of Rome and vice-camerlengo of the Church. In 1756 Pope Benedict XIV created him Cardinal and named him Secretary of State and Vice-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church. He participated in the Papal conclave, 1758; he was considered papabile and received several votes in the early ballots.
