Archery At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Men's Individual W1
The men's individual W1 archery discipline at the 2024 Summer Paralympics will be contested from 29 to 31 August at Les Invalides The Hôtel des Invalides ( en, "house of invalids"), commonly called Les Invalides (), is a complex of buildings in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France, containing museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France, as ..., Paris. In the ranking rounds each archer shoots 72 arrows, and is seeded according to score. In the knock-out stages each archer shoots three arrows per set against an opponent, the scores being aggregated. Losing semifinalists compete in a bronze medal match. As the field contained 13 archers, the three highest ranked archers will proceed directly to the quarter-final round; the remaining ten will enter in the Round of 16. Jean-Pierre Antonios (born 30 January 1965 in Kuwait) is a Finnish- Kuwaiti Paralympic archer who competes at international archery competitions. He is a World champion and double European champion in the compound bow. Antonios was a militant for the Lebanese Forces until the late 1980s then emigrated to Finland as an asylum seeker in 1990. He visited his home nation of Lebanon in 1997, on his way to the country, he contracted campylobacter which resulted in his central nervous system get destroyed and was diagnosed with Gullain Barré syndrome. He returned to Finland and was put on a ventilator for three months, he spent a total of thirteen months in the hospital and he used a wheelchair since then. In 2000, he was granted Finnish citizenship and also took up archery then competed internationally in 2002. Shaun Anderson (born October 29, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, and Texas Rangers. Yiğit Caner Aydın (born 23 August 1992) is a Turkish world-champion para-archer competing in the Men's compound bow W1 event. Early life Yiğit Caner Aydın was born in Trabzon, northeastern Turkey on 23 August 1992. He moved to Istanbul with his family at the age of three. In 2006, he started to develop web projects, and earning his living. In 2010, he entered Faculty of Astronomy and Space Science at Istanbul University. By participating in social responsibility projects, he aimed to help children living in disadvantaged regions develop their social skills and themselves. In 2013, as he was sitting in a lounge at his friend's school, a heavy stand fell over his head, and fractured his neck at C6 level. He was eight months in the hospital following six days of intensive care stay. He became paralyzed from the chest down. Bahattin Hekimoğlu (born 12 January 1989) is a Turkish world and European champion para-archer competing in the men's recurve bow W1 (wheelchair) event. Early years Hekimoğlu was born in the Şişli district of Istanbul, Turkey on 12 January 1989. After finishing high school in 2006, Hekimoğlu was about to enroll at Sakarya University. During the summer vacation that year, he went with his friends to Heybeliada, Istanbul to swim. Hekimoğlu hit the seabed after he jumped headfirst into the sea from the pier. He broke his neck, could not get out of the water, drowned, and his heart stopped. He was rescued by a physician, and was rushed to a hospital. He later learned that he was paralyzed following surgery for the spinal cord injury. He was not able to walk, and did not leave his home for the next two years.
