The archdeacon of Gower is the priest in charge of the archdeaconry of Gower, an administrative division of the Church in Wales Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. The archdeaconry comprises the six deaneries of Clyne, Cwmtawe, Gower, Llwchwr, Penderi and Swansea. History The archdeaconry of Gower and the corresponding role of archdeacon of Gower were created in 1923, coinciding with the creation of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. Church In Wales
The Church in Wales ( cy, Yr Eglwys yng Nghymru) is an Anglicanism, Anglican church in Wales, composed of six dioceses. The Archbishop of Wales does not have a fixed archiepiscopal see, but serves concurrently as one of the six diocesan bishops. The position is currently held by Andy John, Bishop of Bangor, since 2021. Unlike the Church of England, the Church in Wales is not an established church. Harold Williams (died 2004)
Harold Edgar Williams (1917–2004) was a Welsh Anglican priest in the 20th century. Hughes was educated at St David's College, Lampeter and ordained in 1943. After curacies in Leytonstone and Barnes he was a chaplain in the RNVR from 1946 to 1948. When peace returned he was curate at St Jude, Swansea then a Royal Navy Chaplain from 1948 to 1951. He held incumbencies at Llansantffraed, Hay-on-Wye, Brynmawr and Newton, Swansea. Jonathan Davies (Welsh Priest)
Jonathan Byron Davies (born 14 September 1969) is a Welsh Anglican priest. He has served as the Vicar of Llwynderw in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, Church in Wales since September 2015, and as the Archdeacon of Gower since September 2016. Anthony Edward Pierce (born 16 January 1941) was the Bishop of Swansea and Brecon in the Church in Wales from 1999 to 2008. Career Pierce was educated at Dynevor School, Swansea, and at Swansea University and Linacre College, Oxford. After studying at Ripon College Cuddesdon he was ordained in 1966.'' Hubert William Benjamin Hughes was a Welsh Anglican priest in the 20th century. Hughes was educated at St David's College, Lampeter and ordained in 1939. After curacies in Hornsey and Defynnog he was a chaplain to the Forces from 1942 to 1947. When peace returned he held further curacies at Llandefalle and Llyswen. Diocese Of Swansea And Brecon
The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon was established as a Diocese of the Church in Wales in 1923 with Brecon Priory as the cathedral. The area of the diocese had formerly been the Archdeaconry of Brecon within the Diocese of St Davids. The diocese has a border with each of the other five Welsh dioceses, as well as with the English Diocese of Hereford. Edward Latham Bevan was made Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of St Davids as Bishop of Swansea in 1915, and in 1923 he was elected as the first Bishop of the new diocese.
