Thomas Archbold, or Thomas Galmole (died after 1506) was a goldsmith and silver worker, who evidently qualified as a lawyer, and rose to become a senior Crown official and judge in Ireland in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Archbold Stadium
Archbold Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Syracuse, New York. It opened in 1907 and was home to the Syracuse Orangemen football team prior to the opening of the Carrier Dome in 1980. History After organizing athletics events at various Star Parks around the city, the university wanted the center of athletics on campus, and created the Old Oval. The athletics program quickly outgrew the multi-purpose field and the Oval was no longer considered a suitable location for such events. The stadium was named for John D. Archbold, who donated $600,000 for the project. He was also responsible for funding towards the building of Archbold Gymnasium, located just to the east overlooking the stadium. The stadium was built entirely of concrete in the excavated hill side and seated over 25,000 spectators. Construction of the stadium took place from May 1, 1905 to 1907. Archbold Gymnasium
Archbold Gymnasium is a gymnasium located on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. History It was built in 1908 with money donated by John Dustin Archbold, a major benefactor of the university, who also funded the building of Archbold Stadium, just to the west of the gymnasium (now the site of the Carrier Dome). It was the largest college gymnasium when built. It served as the home to the men's basketball team until the building of the Manley Field House in 1962, with the exception of the time from January, 1947 to 1949. This was due to a large fire which gutted most of the building. The building was rebuilt from 1948 to 1949, and a southern addition was made in 1952, as well as a neighboring gymnasium (Flanagan Gymnasium), which was built in 1989 and was only accessible via a glass skyway from Archbold Gymnasium. Archbold Biological Station
The Archbold Biological Station (ABS) is a research institute with a surrounding estate near Lake Placid, Florida, USA. It includes an extensive area of Florida scrub, a scientifically interesting and highly threatened ecosystem. It was established in 1941 by Richard Archbold when his sponsorship of zoological research in New Guinea was curtailed by the outbreak of the Second World War in the Pacific region. The Station supports 19 federally listed threatened species, including the Sand Skink ('' Neoseps reynoldsi'') and 13 endemic plant species. It is a venue for field research and education, as well as ranching. The station and grounds are open to visitors, who must register at the main office. Archbold is a village in Fulton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,346 at the 2010 census. Archbold is home to Northwest State Community College. It was designated a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation in 1983. History Archbold was founded in 1855 when the railroad was extended to that point. The village was probably named for John Archbald, a railroad promoter, though another tradition is that the name is an amalgamation of Arch and Bald, two other railroad officials. Shane William Archbold (born 2 February 1989) is a New Zealand professional racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in Timaru, Archbold competed in the men's omnium at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and won the gold medal in the men's scratch race at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, along with bronze in the men's team pursuit. He was named in the start list for the 2016 Tour de France. During the 2016 Tour de France Shane crashed early on in the 17th stage and broke his pelvis but he struggled on to finish the stage. However, he was forced to withdraw from the race four days from the finish. In October 2017 it was announced that Archbold would join for the 2018 season. In August 2018, he was without a professional road team because Aqua Blue Sport folded. Richard Archbold
Richard Archbold (April 9, 1907 – August 1, 1976) was an American zoologist and philanthropist. He was independently wealthy, being the grandson of the capitalist John Dustin Archbold. He was educated at private schools, and later attended classes at Columbia University though he never graduated. He used his share of his family's wealth first to sponsor a series of biological expeditions to New Guinea for the American Museum of Natural History, and later to establish, maintain and endow a biological research station in Florida. In 1929, Archbold joined the ranks of members of the Explorers Club in New York. Madagascar expedition In 1928 Archbold was invited to participate in a Franco-British-American zoological expedition to Madagascar (1929–1931), led by Jean Delacour, on which he was responsible for mammal collecting. Ralph Archbold (January 17, 1942 – March 25, 2017) was a Philadelphia-area actor and speaker best known for his long-time impersonation of U.S. Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Franklin impersonation Archbold began impersonating Franklin in 1973 for a local summer production in Dearborn, Michigan. He enjoyed the role so much he read over 200 of Franklin's books, and realized that he was born on Franklin's birthday, January 17. He began performing at schools full-time, and in 1981 moved to Philadelphia to continue his impersonation in Franklin's home city where demand was higher. He gave frequent speeches for company meetings, and was regularly seen sitting on a park bench in Franklin Court. He was declared the official Benjamin Franklin for the city of Philadelphia, and was awarded ''Philadelphia'' magazine's Best of Philly Award.
