Archbishop Of Lwów
The Latin Archdiocese of Lviv ( la, Archidioecesis Leopolitanus Latinorum) was erected on August 28, 1412 in the city of Lwów (today Lviv). It serves as a metropolitan see of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine. The principal patron of the Archdiocese is the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Mercy. Archdiocese of Lviv today is divided between Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church and Armenian Catholic Church. Armenian Catholic Church has only one diocese in Ukraine and vacant since 1954. History In 1909 Pope Pius X proclaimed the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland and Blessed Jakub Strzemię to be the patrons of the Lviv archdiocese. In 1910 the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland became the principal patron. Nowadays the principal patron is the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Mercy (NMP Łaskawa). Jan Amor Tarnowski (Latin: Joannes Tarnovius; 1488 – 16 May 1561) was a Polish nobleman, knight, military commander, military theoretician, and statesman of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. He was Grand Crown Hetman from 1527, and was the founder of the city of Tarnopol, where he built the Ternopil Castle and the Ternopil Pond. Stanisław Słomowski (died 22 September 1575 in Lwów) was a Polish Bishop and Cardinal of Roman Catholic Church. Born into the Abdank noble family he was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, doctor of Laws, Canon of Poznań and Gniezno, Auxiliary Bishop of Krakow and Archbishop of Lviv. He was the son of a very wealthy nobleman, Wincenty Słomowski and relative of Bishop Piotr Tomicki. He studied at the Academy of Cracow, and in Italy.
