Arch Wilder
Archibald Charles Wilder (April 30, 1917 – December 24, 2002) was a Canadian professional ice hockey winger (ice hockey) , left winger who played 18 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1940–41 NHL season, 1940–41 season, registering two assists and two penalty minutes. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1935 to 1952, was spent in various minor leagues. Wilder was born in Melville, Saskatchewan. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. Open to North American-born players 20 years of age or younger, the SJHL's 12 teams play in three divisions: the Olympic Buildings, Sherwood and Viterra Divisions. Calgary Stampeders (ice Hockey)
The Calgary Stampeders were a defunct ice hockey team that was based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The team existed from 1938 until 1972, playing in various senior amateur and minor professional leagues during that time. The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. The 1942 Allan Cup was the senior ice hockey championship of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association for the 1941–42 season. The Ottawa RCAF Flyers defeated the Port Arthur Bearcats by three games to two to win the Allan Cup. American Hockey Association (1926–1942)
The American Hockey Association (AHA) was a minor professional hockey league that operated between 1926 and 1942. It had previously operated as the Central Hockey League (1925–1926), and before that as part of the United States Amateur Hockey Association. The AHA was the first professional hockey league to field teams in the Southern United States. The founding president was Alvin Warren, who also owned the St. Paul Saints. The Omaha Knights were a minor league professional ice hockey team that played in Omaha, Nebraska. The Knights were members of the American Hockey Association from 1939 to 1942, until the team went on hiatus during World War II. Indianapolis Capitals
The Indianapolis Capitals were an American Hockey League professional ice hockey team based in Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1939 to 1952. The Capitals were a farm team for the Detroit Red Wings. Indianapolis won the Calder Cup in 1942 and 1950. They played in the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum. There was also a Central Hockey League team with a similar name, the Indianapolis Capitals, that in 1963 played in the same arena. They played nine games before being relocated to Cincinnati to play as the Cincinnati Wings due to an explosion that rendered the Coliseum unusable.
