Francesco Arcangeli (18 May 1737 – 20 July 1768) was an Italian cook and criminal, the murderer of the famous art historian Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717–1768). Biography A native of Campiglio di Cireglio, hamlet of the municipality of Pistoia ( Grand Duchy of Tuscany), Francesco Arcangeli was a cook by profession and had already been the subject of criminal convictions. Winckelmann's murder Johann Joachim Winckelmann, the 50-year-old Prefect of Antiquities of Pope Clement XIII, arrived incognito, as ''Signor Giovanni'', in Trieste (Holy Roman Empire) on 1 June 1768.Gossman 1992, p. 212. Luigi Arcangeli (1902 - 23 May 1931) was an Italian motorcycle and car racer. Biography Arcangeli was born at Forlì in 1894. A factory rider for Sarolea, Sunbeam, Bianchi and Moto Guzzi, he turned to four wheels in the wake of his friend Tazio Nuvolari. His first appearance was a win in 1928 at the Circuito di Senigallia with a 2-litre Bugatti. After Bugatti he drove Talbot-Darracqs, winning at Cremona in 1928, continuing with Maserati Tipo 8C-2500, with a first place at the Rome Grand Prix in 1930. Later he moved to Alfa Romeo and joined Enzo Ferrari's scuderia with Nuvolari as team mate. Giovanni Arcangeli (18 July 1840 – 16 July 1921) was an Italian botanist from Florence. In 1862 he earned his degree in natural sciences from the University of Pisa, where he later became an instructor and professor. In 1880 he was a professor of botany at the University of Turin, and in 1882 was appointed director of the Botanical Garden of Pisa. In 1882 Arcangeli published his best-known work, a highly regarded compendium of Italian flora titled ''Compendio della flora italiana''.
