Arcane Collective
Arcane Collective is a contemporary dance production company, producing and presenting work from a cooperative of international artists from different backgrounds. It was founded in 2011 by Morleigh Steinberg, a dancer and choreographer and Oguri, a dancer and choreographer from Japan. Their performance ''Cold Dream Colour'' was presented in 2012, as a homage to the important Irish artist Louis le Brocquy, the performance being inspired by his paintings. Morleigh explained "He so often pays homage to different painters, and I thought, for his birthday we could pay homage to him." The music was composed by Paul Chavez and performed by U2's The Edge with choreography by Liz Roche Steinberg, the artistic director of the piece staged a solo dance as well as a duet with her sister Roxanne, wife of Oguri. Morleigh Steinberg
Morleigh Steinberg is an American choreographer and dancer with the production company Arcane Collective. She is married to the musician the Edge from the rock group U2. Raised in Los Angeles and schooled in modern dance, Steinberg became a formative member of the dancer-illusionist company MOMIX in 1983. They became known for their visual humour and contorted positions. In 1986, she co-founded the ISO dance company, which embodied an approach they called "serious fun" and sometimes collaborated with a singing group, and gave performances around the country and abroad. In both companies she did choreography as well as dancing. She staged her own experimental dance solo production and did choreographic work for films and music videos. Starting in the mid-1990s, she branched out into lighting design and film directing as well, with dance usually being the subject matter. Oguri
Naoyuki Oguri (born 1963), who performs as simply Oguri, is a dancer and choreographer from Japan who lives in Los Angeles, California, where he works creating and teaching dance. His work is influenced by the tradition of the Japanese Butoh style of dance. Oguri was born in Tajimi in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan. Prior to coming to Los Angeles he studied with master Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of a genre of Butoh dance whom Oguri credits as his inspiration for interest in the field. He also studied and danced with Min Tanaka's Body Weather in a mountain village in Yamanashi Prefecture in rural Japan where he met dancer and choreographer Roxanne Steinberg. In 1990 he came to Los Angeles and married Steinberg. In 2002 he was featured in the book ''In Other Los Angeleses: Multicentric Performance Art'' by Meiling Cheng. Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and Europe. Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance. Due to its technical similarities, it is often perceived to be closely related to modern dance, ballet, and other classical concert dance styles. Louis Le Brocquy
__NOTOC__ Louis le Brocquy ''HRHA'' (; 10 November 1916 – 25 April 2012) was an Irish painter born in Dublin to Albert and Sybil le Brocquy. His work received many accolades in a career that spanned some seventy years of creative practice. Paul Chavez
Paul Chavez (born 1 July 1964) is an American composer of dance music, and a sound designer for installation and theater. He often composes under the project name FeltLike. Chavez has worked in the Los Angeles, California area since 1990 where he did some of his first works at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions where he started as a sound engineer. Chavez's music is influenced by the minimalism of Steve Reich and Paul Dresher and the experimental music of Robert Ashley and Laurie Anderson. His work has been featured at the REDCAT Theater in Los Angeles (part of the Walt Disney Concert Hall) and his recent score for the Arcane Collective's dance work Cold Dream Colour was created in collaboration with U2's The Edge. The Edge
David Howell Evans (born 8 August 1961), better known as the Edge or simply Edge,McCormick (2006), pp. 21, 23–24 is an English-born Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. Works & Process
Works & Process at the Guggenheim is a performing-arts series at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Works & Process informs artistic creation through conversation and performance, and is presented in the Guggenheim’s Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Peter B. Lewis Theater. After over 300 productions, Works & Process is now recognized as a pioneer in creating programs that provide access to leading performing artists, writers, choreographers, composers, scientists, and directors.
