Arcadia Fund
The Arcadia Fund is a UK charity organization founded by Lisbet Rausing and Professor Peter Baldwin. Established in 2001, the organization provides grants on a worldwide basis focusing on numerous projects outside the UK. The primary focus of the organization is to preserve endangered culture and nature and to provide open access. Its Mission statement outlines the organization's philosophical view to: "serve humanity (and) to preserve cultural heritage and ecosystem's". The organization believes that "once memories, knowledge, skills, variety, and intricacy disappear – once the old complexities are lost – they are hard to replicate or replace" and consequently want to, "build a vibrant, resilient, green future". Peter Baldwin (professor)
Peter Baldwin (born December 22, 1956) is a professor of history at the University of California, Los Angeles and a philanthropist. He was educated at Harvard (MA and PhD, both in History 1980 and 1986), and Yale (BA Philosophy and History, 1978). He has written several books about Europe. Career A study of the state of trans-Atlantic relations between the United States and Europe from Oxford University Press was published in late 2009, entitled ''The Narcissism of Minor Differences: How America and Europe are Alike''. In 2014 he published ''The Copyright Wars: Three Centuries of Trans-Atlantic Battle''. Philanthropy Baldwin co-founded the Arcadia Fund in 2001 with his wife Lisbet Rausing. Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is an international conservation charity and non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting the planet's threatened wildlife and habitats. Illuminated River
''Illuminated River'' is a large-scale public art commission which lights up nine bridges in central London across the River Thames. Designed by American artist Leo Villareal in collaboration with British architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, it uses LED light fittings to produce sequenced patterns of moving light across the bridge structures. At 3.2 miles (5.1 km) in length, it is one of the world’s longest ever public art commissions. Lisbet Rausing
Anna Lisbet Kristina Rausing (born 9 June 1960) is a science historian and philanthropist. She is a co-founder of Arcadia, one of the UK's largest philanthropic foundations. Early life Lisbet Rausing is the eldest daughter of Hans Rausing and his wife Märit Rausing. She has one sister, Sigrid Rausing, and one brother, Hans Kristian Rausing. Her grandfather, Ruben Rausing, was co-founder of the Swedish packaging company Tetra Pak. Rausing studied History at the University of California, Berkeley (B.A., summa cum laude 1984) and completed an M.A. (1987) and Ph.D. (1993) in History at Harvard University.
