Arbor Hill, Iowa
Arbor Hill is an unincorporated community or ghost town in Adair County, Iowa, United States. Geography It is located on County Road P28, south of Stuart, at 41.366543N, -94.317809W. History A post office was established at Arbor Hill in 1857, the name was changed to Arborhill in 1895, and the post office closed in 1907. Arbor Hill's population was 58 in 1902. The community was once home to the Arbor Hill Co-Operative Creamery Company, a blacksmith shop, and a general store; the Port Union Mill dam was located one half mile west of Arbor Hill, on the Middle River. The community (at that time known as Arborhill) was the site of the Seventh Annual Old Settlers and Old Soldiers Reunion, held on August 12, 13, and 14, 1908. The Methodist church in Greenfield, constructed in 1877, was built from lumber cut near Arbor Hill. Arborhill's population was 68 in 1924. Old Settlers' Association
The Old Settlers' Association was founded in 1866 by a group of men in Omaha, Nebraska. Membership in the organization was exclusive to settlers who were in the city before 1858. Omaha was founded in 1854. Omaha's Old Settlers' Association was responsible for recording much of the early history of the city. Berea was an unincorporated community in Eureka Township, Adair County, Iowa, United States. History Berea was founded along the banks of the Middle Nodaway River; it was named after the Ancient Greek city of Berea. The community was founded by Ned Brown and Alexander Broadfoot, who were early settlers, and its peak population was around 100 residents. A post office called Berea was established in 1894, and remained in operation until 1908. In 1905, the community was reported to have a population of 40, with a general store, a pharmacist, a creamery, a blacksmith and a wagonmaker. The Berea Store was built in June 1909, replacing an earlier store which had been destroyed by fire. In 1915, Berea was described as a village, with the Berea Horse Company being a noted business, owned by brothers Isaac Brown and A.R. Brown. Greenfield is a city and county seat of Adair County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 2,062. History The area around Greenfield was settled in 1854. The plan for the town of Greenfield was created in 1856 when the land was purchased by Milton C. Munger.
